There are few maps I love more than this one. "The City of Ember" written by Jeanne DePrau (May 2003); a ride I've taken over and over again.

The Pipeworks were a system of pipes that collected water from the river to the city's dwellings. The Pipeworks played an important role in the escape from Ember, as boats and candles were stored there. The Pipeworks was a risky place, due to the river's fast current and the fact that the stairs down to the Pipeworks possessed no safety features for the descent. Mayor Cole was hoarding supplies from the storerooms in Tunnel 351 of the Pipeworks, with the help of a young man named Looper.
