I grow on a small property (1/2 acre) and parts of it, I can’t put in anything permanent so I use the bulb crates as a temporary solution for more grow space. The maze is impractical from a harvesting perspective, but so enjoyable to look at and walk through that it was worth the inconveniences.

This past spring I did tulips: 80 per crate. 1 inch of dirt on the bottom, line up all the bulbs and 6 inches of dirt on top.

In summer, I topped them off and planted two dahlias per crate. The tuber production on those was similar to the ones I planted in the ground. They just needed a tad more water, as is typical with flowers planted in a pot.

And now I’m planting them all with ranuncu Growing Tulips, Flower Farmer, How To Grow Taller, Taking A Break, Flower Farm, Raised Beds, Take A Break, Dream Garden, Cut Flowers

Back in 2018 we moved to an urban 1/2 acre lot and I set to work shortly after gradually converting each space until now… fast forward: it’s a haven of beauty, peace and joy for me and my family!

Some tips to get started!
•Start small. Mark out a 200-1000 sq ft spot and start there. Add on a bit more each year. My first flower garden was 500 sq ft and I got SO many flowers out of that space: multiple bouquets every week! You don’t need loads of space to have all the flowers you need!

•Learn how to grow from seed. You’ll save a lot if you can master starting annuals and even perennials f Grow From Seed, Flower Growing, 1000 Sq Ft, Me And My Family, Peace And Joy, Growing Seeds, Fast Forward, Flower Farm, Perennials

You get your tubers and they look like weird, little potatoes and your brain instantly goes ‘really?! THAT is going to grow a flower?’ And then you plant it; and it turns into this gorgeous 5 ft plant with amazing flowers that take your breath away! Planting is simple: •Wait until after your last frost and pick well-draining soil in full sun (unless you live somewhere super hot, then pick a spot with morning sun but late afternoon shade). Plant 6 inches deep: horizontal is best! •Minimize watering until the dahlia sprouts above the soil and then water regularly through the season! You can apply a general fertilizer, but minimize ones that are high in nitrogen because t Plants To Grow, Late Afternoon, Morning Sun, Flower Farm, Yard Ideas, Your Brain, Amazing Flowers, Dahlia, Planting

I used a no-till method and sheet mulched the entire space with cardboard and then brought in good quality compost to build up beds on top of that. I first planted it in the spring of 2021, and since then I’ve been adding to it every year. My color inspiration is corals, peach, pinks, pale yellows, blue and violet - I can’t wait to share more videos of it this year! Here’s some of my tips for doing the same in your space! -Break up a large space into small spaces. This might just be a mental break with no physical difference, but large spaces are overwhelming so I mark out a small space (usually 20 sq ft) and fill that space. I prefer flagging tape and a high quality garden sharpie (doesn’t wear off with weather or time ). Tied to the base of the plant means that once I go to dig up the clumps it’s easy to tell what’s what! I’ll share my favorite sharpie in my stories… regular ones won’t cut it sadly, and you’ll just have to relabel them!

Any questions, let me know!
