I made a list of things I had to do to get the clues!(I was on the Wingding route, but I'll just highlight those ones.) And since things are kinda buried, I'll just comment mine.

-Approach the old man
-Daisy, Lunch
-Go for a run
-Linger
-Jump back
-Alleyway
-Swan Park
-Rest
-Check on him
-Ask him about his son
-Inquire about Edward
-Ask him what he knows
-Pillow
(-Accept his help)
-Stay at first
-Leave the second
(-Politely Refuse)
-Stop by before your morning run
-Step inside Mr. Scotts home
-What if their all connected?
-Wait
-I like your watch
-Your father must be proud of you
-Mr. Scott adored you
-He looked forward to your visits
-Go Left

Why the only option i have is "Politely but firmly tell him no" I've played this game before and had the other option (accept his help).

Hmm, weird. Are we talking about when he asks to hold your groceries? Because I think the only options for that one is to refuse his help or accept it... but I think the politely refuse part is when he suggests another place you can stay when you see the police at your apartment... If that helps... But I'll replay it on my side to see what you're talking about.

I'm pretty sure it will. These are the general choices to get the clues, and the highlighted ones only show for people going with the Wingding route. But you don't have to worry about that because it doesn't change the stuff(I'm 99% sure)! You'll still get all of the clues!

That really depends on the situation. Because the person your politely refusing shouldn't be the rose doctor, it should be Wingding. But I'm assuming you are following the list so you shouldn't be meeting the rose doctor at all. But I would maybe just check if you specifically chose to go on the romance route with Wingding, and if that doesn't work, I'd just restart completely, because it could just be a possible glitch with your disk or stuff.
