Walkthrough:

Don't go down the path of revenge; get justice. There are choices that seem tamer/more civil than the other. 

You need to find Doe's body; go to the forest. Right, forward, then left. You'll find an extra option at the end for the stranger. That's when you know you made the right choices correctly to lead to ending 1.
