I’ve been digging some THG content on Twitter and I probably shouldn’t be surprised to find brainrotting content over there, but when did we as fandoms become so opposed to fanon interpretation? To, you know, having fun?
“Suzanne Collins ENDED Hayffie”
“Suzanne Collins ENDED Haysilee”
Like I’m sorry but both ships have been around for more than ten years and Suzanne Collins couldn’t end them if she invested all of her money to run an anti-shipping campaign that sought to destroy Ao3. And I don’t mean this in a “Fuck Suzanne Collins!” way because I actually loved SOTR and genuinely like her as a writer. Realistically I just don’t think she gives a fuck. She won’t come after you for a ship and you don’t need her permission to do whatever.
Also please, can we stop pushing the mentality that romantic love is some fixed, unchangeable thing. You can love more than one person at the same time. You can hold a dead loved one in your heart while you love someone else in the present. That doesn’t have to be your personal Haymitch interpretation. No, it doesn’t mean he will be ‘forever alone’ because romantic love isn’t the only kind of love that’s fulfilling. If you like to think he will only ever romantically love Lenor Dove, that’s fine. The text certainly says so. But other people will have different interpretations and wish for something different. When exactly did we start throwing nuance after the window and start acting like you’re either a canon purist or a canon hater. What happened to “Yes I love this, I just personally disagree with some things.”
