ANALOG NOTE 1: Ben Thanh Market (Fujifilm Superia X-TRA 400)
When I think of Ben Thanh Market, I’m reminded of my very first day as an exchange student in Vietnam. This was the first place that I went to because I had to meet up with my cousin who was based in Saigon. I haven’t purchased a sim card and I didn’t know where the buses went so I asked my roommate to book a Grab Bike for me.
When I was dropped off by my driver, the first thing that I did was to search for a hotspot to let my cousin know that I had arrived. Believe it or not, there was free wifi in Ben Thanh Market.
ANALOG NOTE 2: Ben Thanh Market (Kodak Colorplus 200)
I usually memorize directions and landmarks immediately but for Ben Thanh Market, it took me quite a while. Since the market is shaped like a square, there are four sides that I had to take note of. One thing that I did to help me remember was to walk around the area repeatedly to familiarize myself with the shops at every corner.
ANALOG NOTE 3 (Kodak Colorplus 200)
The main mode of transportation in Saigon is the motorcycle. It’s common to see parked bikes in every road because not all areas have proper parking spaces.
ANALOG NOTE 4 (Kodak Colorplus 200)
This is taken in front of the film developing lab that I usually go to in Saigon. While waiting for my Grab driver to arrive, I noticed how the sun was casting harsh shadows in front of me.
Nature already set up the lighting for me, and all that I needed to do was to capture the right moment.
