My New Hazbin Hotel OC

Inspired by @ruddyhotelau ’s Hazbin Hotel AU, I made an angeI OC.

Prince of the seven seas, angel of water and Protector of all life who lives in it.

Is calm most of the time and relaxed, a mischievous angel who likes to prank his siblings (Gabriel the most), but knows his limits. Is serious when it comes to his work but knows to enjoy it. Kind to everyone.

When enraged Zaaphiel is unforgiving like the sea and only calms down when he gets tired.

Was responsible for the great flood that destroyed most life on earth (he deeply regrets it despite being an order from god).

If not on duty in heaven, he and his subordinates live on earth in the deepest depths of the ocean (Mariana Trench) in an underwater city and protect oceans aquatic life from there.

Makes the weather together with his siblings (responsible for everything that has to do with water).

He is very curious. This curiosity lead to some encounters with humans and started the legends about mermaids (he was ordered not to engage with humans, so he got reprimanded for this).

Likes to swim with stingrays (with his wings out).

HI I JUST REALLY WANTED TO DRAW HAU’S MOM
I don’t know why no one has drawn Hau’s very existent (but sadly only ever mentioned) parents yet and I was very sad when the anime didn’t expand on it the way they introduced Kiawe’s and Mallow’s family for example!
So I decided the NPC in Hala’s house from USUM with the Slowpoke MUST be Hau’s mom, so I built my design up from that :D

HELE
Name Origin: Ma‘o hau hele (Hibiscus brackenridgei) , a bright yellow Hibiscus species.
Since the hawaiian name of this flower includes the name “Hau”, it seemed like the perfect plant to name her after :D While Hau was named after the sea hibiscus Hibiscus tiliaceus, I like to think Hele chose this name well aware that the plant she was named after contained the name “Hau” as well. They’ll always stay connected this way.
Hele is a very calm and collected woman. After her husband left to work in Kanto, she decided to stay in Alola and raise her son with the help of Hala. The old Kahuna respects her greatly for her strength and effort to keep the family together. She doesn’t take much interest in pokemon battles, but fully supports her sons dreams of becoming a trainer. She is in charge of the house and keeps everything in order, together with her beloved Slowpoke. When Hala took Guzma in, Hele made sure he’d have to do his part in the house like everyone else. Guzma has to regularly help her with cooking for the family and vacuuming the living room.

So the next question is: Will she ever appear in the comics?
I mean. I really want her to. But, uh. I don’t know when and HAU yet (HAHA), but I’m sure I’ll figure something out :D I’m still playing with ideas at this point, but I simply was too excited to keep her a secret until then :D She’s more of a side-character, but one I really wanted to add to expand on the lives and relationships of the family.

Been a while since I answered this question before…like…goodness gracious, 5 years ago gEEZ 👀💦

But nothing has changed since then so my answer stays the same 😂 So far they never really interacted before, but Dusk can see Hau is almost like a little brother to El and an exceptionally jolly kid to an almost confusing degree

But yeah, he’s basically just been watching the kid from afar and is pretty neutral on Hau
At least he’s smart enough to not see a literal kid as a tHREAT

So, I looked the size of each pokemon up and discovered that joltik (10cm) are smaller than snom (30 cm).

Then I thought not too bad, let's just say Nugget is bigger than the average joltik because they're living in Alola and getting more sun than the joltik in Unova.

I don’t want to spoil anything major for the story, but I do have an idea for a Dusk-centric arc that tackles his relationship with Guzma (among other things), however it’s FAR. And I MEAN: FAAAAAAAAAAAAAR OFF in the future and it could be that the comic undergoes some rewrites until then.

Sometimes I wish I could update as frequently as full-time webcomic artists are able to, but it’s exactly as you said, then I wouldn’t be able to do all the things you just listed, from commissions to merch to book work ect…

I’m just really impatient myself sometimes. I really want to reach a certain story arc this year within the comic, there are stories yet untold that are VERY important to me, so I’m trying to work smarter and more efficient, but there’s definitely a limit on shortcuts I can take, especially when life is unpredictable as it is. You can never work like a machine and plan for EVERYTHING in advance, that’s just not how it works.

But that’s why I’m even more grateful for all of you guys ☺️
The fact that you’re all still as hyped as ever whenever I update and are looking forward to the comics no matter how long some updates may take, it really means the world to me!! It keeps me motivated and I am so happy my joy and love for this comic is still going strong!
The road may be long, but I am determined to continue this story, while also working on my gardendragon books in hopes that I can share THOSE stories one day with you all as well! 💖
