Here for the Sims 2 Custom Content

@johndublindogs

The real reason I logged in today was because I installed couple of Sims, each in their own folder so I knew I'd get duplicates and planned to sort them out but before that did this important little step:

Searched the whole folder for *.package to get all the package files listed. After that I set the order to "size" starting from the biggest one and it revealed me this;

Now you're probably wondering, what's so bad about these randomly named files I've highlighted. Well, maybe you've heard of the file that can make your game crash at for example sim aging to elder? Or perhaps your game randomly crashes when random sim enters your lot? Sometimes the file is called "uhkjhihjkj(11)" and it's a file that likes tagging along with packaged Sims and occasionally people pack it together with recolors that are actually using in-game meshes thinking that it's an oddly named mesh.

Well it's not a mesh. This file has few characteristics that make it pretty easy to spot: firstly usually the random name (or the uhkjhihjkj(11) mentioned earlier), secondly the file size, I've seen few slightly different sized ones but usually it is 6807KB or 6.64MB depending on where you check the size. Thirdly, if you open it in SimPE the contents will look like this:

It contains 1534 CRES resources, and as you can see it's CRES:es of all(?) base game accessories, clothes, hairs and who knows what else. The list is so long I never bothered checking it all though. Point however is that for whatever reason this file corrupts very easily and causes game to crash at random moments. And even if it doesn't corrupt it's just plain junk file that's taking space on your hard drive.

Now you're probably (hopefully!) looking through your Downloads folder to see if you have this file/these files and that's a good idea. Also good news is that you don't need to panic, if you find this kind of file in your game just delete it. Nothing will break, nothing needs it so your recolors will remain working. It's literally a junk file and it's perfectly save to delete so please do so.

I felt like making this little PSA since I realized that not everybody probably is aware of this stupid file lurking out there in random downloads. + this way I can just link this post whenever it sounds like somebody might have this particular issue with their game so I won't need to type it all over again every time.

MY SIMS 2 GAME HAS NOT CRASHED SINCE JULY 6TH 2023 (well technically it's crashed only 5 times) Yes, I've kept count. It was so important to me to track if these methods actually work-- BABY, they do! And you guys know my Lots are THICK! From these videos I learnt it was not just enough to uninstall my game, Sims2 has so many crappy things hidden in them that mess with your gameplay. Anyway enough about my success, cheers to yours. Here are the vids; and bravo to these creators for bringing life back to my game. My game used to crash at least 3 times in 3 hours- now i binge play for 13hrs :)

Here's Klira's Patreon content from start until some time in spring: www (.) mediafire (.) com/file/gfesbeuz1uo5pq8/Klira (.) zip/file (no recent files). I got Trinity from the same period too, if there are any takers.

Thank you for the submission! I appreciate it!

Edit: Anon, if you see this, would you be willing to upload trinity’s too? Someone messaged me looking for those too. Thank you💞

Because why is there content $70 a month THREE YEARS LATER! LOL

So nice of simmer to share!!!!

Help,please.

I just got a fancy new laptop (Windows 11) with a Nvidia RTX 3050 graphics card. It runs directX 12. I installed it when I wanted to smooth the edges in my Sims2 game and it asked for it. But it has to be directX 9 for Sims2 to launch. So, I installed that, too. How do I get my game to work? Or my card to pick dx 9 for the Sims?

Try to: right click on the game ico - properties - compatibility - run in Windows 7 mode.

In this mode, windows must run the game with dx9

I'm using this video as a guide on reinstallation, because i'm already lost and tired because it took me two days to regain sound after formatting the computer.

About ten years ago I bought a computer specifically for playing Sims 2. I'm going to do some hardware upgrades, particularly replacing the busted second DVD drive, because doing what I call the 21-disc tango with only one DVD drive is

Well

Bad

(I'm also putting in a solid state hard drive to speed things up, and some more USB ports because almost all of them are burned out. I may also install a second SSD at a later date so I can run a non-Windows 7 OS for newer games.)

It's funny you should mention the 21-disc tango.

Hello, I'm a huge fan of your videos and your mods I was wondering what hair system you use for your game?

Avatar

Hey, thanks! That's so nice to hear😊

I actually don't use a specific system, I find this too limiting. In real life, we all have different hair textures and colors/shades so to me it looks weird when every sim has the exact same hair texture and just one of 4 different colors. Besides, I always find that no one system is perfect for me - like I like Poppet but the brown is too light & reddish so you wouldn't have any dark brown hair sims with this system alone, I like Remi but the blonde is too yellow for most sims, etc. So, I mix and match! Here are some of my favourite creators, many of which will be featured in my Veronaville Tour:

I haven't really updated my downloads in a long time, there are lots more brilliant hair creators out there, some quite new, but I hope that helps!

This is awesome!  I am always searching for Creators.

I am not a Man.  John and Dublin are my Dogs (just in case some can’t determine that from my simple handle).  I am a straight Grandma in my 60′s so PLEASE STOP FOLLOWING ME YOU NASTY WOMEN WHO I BLOCK EVERY TIME.  Thank you.

My master list of downloads on Dreamwidth was getting WAY too long, so I’ve created a new directory on Google Docs! It’s a spreadsheet with pics, info, and links to my downloads on Tumblr, Dreamwidth, Pillowfort, and GoS.

It’s still a work in progress as it’s going to take a LONG time to finish adding all the hairs, but the clothing, accessories, makeup, CAS defaults, objects, and walls & floors I’ve made so far are all there.

Until I’m caught up, the Dreamwidth list will still be there if you’re looking for something specific.

I hope this is helpful to someone, well at least more helpful than a big old wall o’text 😆

It took me the entire day to reinstall the game on my new computer, to make all the adjustements for it to work on Windows 11, find the right settings with the Graphic Rules Maker, and… my game loads twice faster from Windows to neighborhood view, then it loads at least TEN TIMES faster to enter a lot, everything runs so smoothly, even in very heavy CC lots and neighborhoods, with all settings at high, Origin downloading the Sims 4 at the same time, talking to my best friend on Discord, recording a video… like… IS THIS HEAVEN ?! I’m about to cry. Tears of joy of course. But still !

I think the next week (or maybe even the next month) will be about enjoying my game and nothing else. I’m so, so, so happy, you can’t even imagine !

Perhaps you would be willing to share how you made Sims 2 work on Windows 11. There was someone asking for help with getting their game to work with Windows 11. Thanking you in advance 💞

Oh ! I followed a few tutorials actually.

Then the last part of @anibats tutorial (the part about the dxvk file) : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ac1PyUxKoNU except that I wrote 16384 instead of 8192 in the file she talks about and in the Graphic Rules Maker as I now have 32Gb of RAM.

And I learned something important here to complete Anibats tutorial : https://docs.google.com/document/d/19JMr-FQSU3AlF7Kyvcrr7awTiHBDQSUNLG6qfaI6rOs/edit

Grant “Everyone” full control to the TSBin Folder before copying. Otherwise, Windows may lie (🤥) about copying the  d3d9.dll file to the folder. You’ll know you haven’t done this if the d3d9.dll file looks like it is there but no log file or cache files are generated.
If “Everyone” doesn’t appear, press “Edit” and then “Add” then type in “Everyone”, press OK, and “Everyone” should appear as an option you can edit the permissions on.
If you did not grant “Everyone” access, DXVK really might not work and/or crash.
⚠️If you had launched the game before granting “Everyone” access and after copying the DLL, you will be in a ditch. Get out of the ditch by deleting the “%localappdata%\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES” folder. You can get there by putting that path into Windows File Explorer’s address bar.

That was the only part that was useful to me, but it worth reading it all just in case.

My Graphic Rules settings are exactly these if it helps :

Reblogging in case I need this sometime!

Good idea! Reblogging too, in case I need it!

How different are the settings from the ones you used for Windows 10? And do you mind sharing the file number/folder size for your Downloads folder? I haven’t been able.to use anywhere near as much cc without the game crashing as I was with Win 7 & 8, which is highly distressing for this cc addict.

I never used Windows 10, I was still using Windows 7 24h ago x) My Downloads folder size is 8Go. It was 14Go one year earlier, and a very few crashing. I was actually doing all that was possible for my computer to do nothing else than playing the Sims when I wanted to play : no software loading a startup, restarting my computer right before lauching the Sims, defragmenting my drives with O&O Defrag every week, game installed on a SSD… that was pretty much it. Then my game started to pinkflash and crash like two months ago, which was a surprise because it was running nicely for years. Anibats video helped a lot (I used the same settings as her). Much less crashes, but still very laggy, because my computer was dying I guess.

VERY VALUABLE!!!  Thank you so much.

Hi everyone - COMING SOON

The best and worst thing I ever did was learn how to recolor because I am now addicted as you will see.

Imagine if I finally learn how to convert Ts4 and Ts3 to Ts2. It is something I want to learn when I finally get some time.

I have loads of recolors coming your way from tomorrow hopefully. I will share some everyday because there are too many to share all at once.

I hope your games don’t start flashing purple so only keep the colors you love the most.

Above is some examples of what to expect in the coming days.

I am hoping to start working on a new lot after I have shared all these recolors.
