My inability to recognize a single Call of Duty on guessthe .game combined with my ability to one-shot Mr. Mosquito (the PlayStation 2 game where you are mosquito) from the first image says a lot about how close my finger is to the pulse of gaming culture.

Underrated JRPG feature is when one party member uses some non-weapon object as a weapon, but you still upgrade your stats by buying weapons, so now every weapon shop in the world needs to carry parasols of increasing lethality

This post inspired by how Genis in Tales of Symphonia canonically uses a ball and cup toy (kendama) because he's a kid

A kendama, or ball and cup toy. It's a simple wooden cross-shaped toy with two cups and a spike to catch the ball, which is red and attached by a string.ALT

But because everyone in the game also gets an Ultimate Evil Super Cursed Ancient Weapon, the game has to find a way to make an Ultimate Evil Super Cursed Ball and Cup Toy. You know. For evil children.

The same toy, but now the cups are evil hands and the ball is like a fucking morningstar. The whole thing is now in evil shades of black, red, and green. Because it's evilALT

Retro RPGs with dodgy translations really bring out the horse girl in me. “You’re so wild, you make no sense. They’ve all given up on you, but not me. I will be the one to tame you.”

As a person that writes humor, I’ve observed that jokes work better when the reader has to fill in the blanks themselves. Asking a little bit of work on the audience’s part brings them in and makes sure they’re paying attention. I wonder if people love older JRPGs for the same reason. That little bit of extra effort when you have to stop and go “But, wait, what was this sentence TRYING to say” makes you slow down and absorb more of the story. It’s like doing a Talmud study, but for something that’s already technically in English.
