White witch moth

Thysania Agrippina(White Witch) -Male -Recto -Costa Rica -(9.5 in wingspan). This night flying moth has the largest wingspan of any insect (up to 12 inches). They are found from Mexico to South America. This Recto side can vary from white to a brownish white. This is not the most beautiful moth in the world, but it is the biggest(in wingspan).

Thysania agrippina (White witch) is a species of moth in the Erebidae family. The species has numerous common names, including Birdwing moth, Ghost moth, Great grey witch, and Giant owlet moth. It is the lepidopteran with the biggest wingspan, which typically is reported as being up to 27–28 cm (11–11 in) and one Brazilian specimen had a wingspan of almost 30 cm (12 in). The Atlas moth, however, has a greater wing area.

The Giant White Witch (also called the Great Grey Witch, or as it is called in Mexico, the Gavilana “the Hawk”). This moth can reach very large sizes, making it the insect with the largest wing span in the world. The species is Thysania agrippina of the Family Noctuidae (the same Family as the Black Witch). It occurs from Southern Mexico through South America and often comes to lights. This one is from San Cristobal de Las Casas, Chiapas, Mexico.
