Frequently Asked Questions

What does antifa mean?

Antifa literally just means “anti-fascist,” some might refer to it as “anti-fascist action,” but it does not stand for “anti-first amendment” like some will say.

How can I join antifa?

You don’t join antifa, because antifa has no formal organization, it’s an anti-fascist movement. We oppose fascism and state violence through direct action. However, you might be able to find local antifa groups in your area that do community work or protests or education in your area.

How to I get involved with anti-fascist activities in my area?

This can mean a lot of things. Despite what most think, antifa doesn’t just go to protests, that’s actually a small part of what anti-fascists do. If you’re not comfortable or able to go to protests there are a ton of things you can do in your community to help fight against state violence. We’ve answered this question a lot already so here’s some advice:

Here’s some asks on the subject: one, two, three, four and here’s some advice from one post:

I’ll start by first recommending the always great Food Not Bombs. They’re in just about every state which you can find your closest location here. You help prepare and hand out food to however needs a meal. This could mean picking up ingredients or donating or helping to cook or prep or handing it out or cleaning up after. This is a great way to help those in your community, they’re almost always are using food that would have gone to in the garbage so it’s reducing food waste. ALSO, it’s (in my experience) been a great way to get to know people with similar ideals as you.

If there’s not a Food Not Bombs near you look for similar organizations or groups that do the same work. You can volunteer at local community centers, shelters, etc. or donate to them. You might even be able to do similar work through religious centers or cultural centers and some of this can get pretty politically relevant. For examples, some churches in my state used to do water drops in the desert for people crossing the border and help once they crossed into the U.S.

Look at events that colleges near you might be holding. You might see a range of options here. Maybe a seminar about a subject that’s open to the public or a donation drive for a specific cause or a speaker open to the public or even go see if there’s any fliers around the campus. The community college I used to live near held a lot of stuff that centered around homeless LGBT+ youth. They had a local LGBT+ organization come to campus and explain how to help and how to get involved with other offshoot organizations. I have gone to several events without attending the school and they were always free. This applies to both state and community schools.

And as your resident Zine Mod™ I will always recommend getting involved in the zine scene. Make you own political zine or see if others are looking for submissions. The best way to meet like-minded people, in my opinion. And it allows you a chance express yourself and share that with people who might also want to get involved.

Isn’t punching neo-nazis like Richard Spencer counter productive? Doesn’t it make people sympathize with their cause?

If someone was so easily convinced to support neo-nazis because they saw Richard Spencer get punched or whatever then they had those beliefs beforehand. Anti-fascists aren’t turning anyone into a white supremacist. Nobody looks at the video and says “I don’t support this man being punched, I will now call for genocide and a white ethnostate.” That’s not how it works. Blaming anti-fascists is easy, maybe it’s time to confront the fact that white supremacists have always existed in our communities.

And honestly this question is so tired at this point. I 100% support punching Richard Spencer’s teeth out but I’m sick of the only focus on antifa being about this when there’s a billion other things we do that are just as worthy of attention.

Can I submit a donation post or will you reblog mine?

Yes we will post or reblog all donation posts. Please submit a link to the donations post you want reblogged at zerocapitalism.tumblr.com/submit.

How many mods are there?

There’s over a dozen but only about 5 or 6 are currently active.

Why do you post so many donation posts?

One recurring donation post is a mod’s but most aren’t ours. We post so many because we have a huge following and boost people’s posts to help them out. It’s that simple.

Will you stop posting so many donation posts?

No. If you’d like you can unfollow this blog but we also tag “donations,” “signal boost,” and “mutual aid,” for every donations post so you have the option to block these tags if you need. If you still have a problem with it then you can take it up with my ass.

Can you stop posting so many tags?

No. Our tags are so people have easy access to information they need and they are also there if people need certain things blacklisted.

Will you tag something if I ask?

Yes. We have an extensive list of things that we tag but sometimes we forget a few things or maybe we just don’t tag a specific thing you need tagged. If you message us we will definitely tag a post with what you need.

Why do you share resources on how to access government aid if you’re against the government?

Even though we would totally love to live in a world where people had access to the resources they need, we don’t. Because of this we often provide resources on how to sign up for healthcare or get on SSD, for example. Everyone should be able to access this information if they need and we have the visibility to reach thousands if we share resources.

If I need help getting information on disability, food stamps, etc. could you help me?

Yes. A couple of our mods deal with this directly and would be able to guide you through the process or prepare you for what to expect. If you have a question that we can’t answer we can also throw it up in a post and let our followers respond.

Do you ever post non-U.S. related news?

We totally can. Most of our mods were either born in the U.S or currently live here so we don’t always have a ton of  international information always. However, we try our best to post what we see and if you’d like to share a link with us and/or explain something going on in your country then we can definitely post it.

I want to understand leftist politics better, do you know some books I can read?

We actually have a whole section dedicated to books that you can try checking out and many of them have links to PDFs so you can read them for free. We also have a small section dedicated to videos that might come in handy.
