Katniss in Mockingjay after speaking to Hijacked Peeta:
Just a reminder that we donโt know all the good things Katniss does/did for her community, because Katniss wouldnโt tell us unless it was relevant to what was going on.
In Catching fire, she doesnโt tell us that sheโs being going around and bringing food to poor children in the seam until she needs to explain why she had a bag of food and why her mother wouldnโt find that odd.
In the first book, when sheโs telling Peeta about the story of how she got Prims goat, she refuses to admit that this wasnโt a selfish move so she could get money out of that goat. (You could also argue that this is her refusing to be vulnerable in front of Peeta and all of Pamen though. I think itโs both, because she doesnโt even admit that she did this purely for her sister in her internal dialogue.)
And in Mockingjay, she never tells us that sheโs the one that got Haymitch the goose eggs to help him heal after the games. All she says in the epilogue is that Haymitch raises geese when the liquor runs out. And we would never know otherwise if Haymitch didnโt mention that SHE was the one who got him the geese in sotr.
Katniss, during almost the entirety of the trilogy: I don't want kids but I want Peeta to have children so much. He is so dad-shaped it hurts, Imagining his kids running in the meadow in 12 brings me so much joy..
Peeta: has never, not once, expressed any desire to have kids before the epilogue
the flint striker. the picturesque landscape. the sweet, disorienting spring smell. the ripe berries and apples. the glittering stream. the berms of flowers concealing hatches. the volcano that didn't actually spew lava. the tokens that concealed bomb components.
the heavily ommited footage. the card stacking. the reaction shots. the 5 minute delay. the early cut-off. louella's body double. the editing to make it seamless. the propos they shot.

The scene in catching fire where Katniss goes to Haymitch to make him promise to protect Peeta only for him to say that Peeta was just there asking the same thing for her is heartbreaking and beautiful and tragic and all that
but its also hilarious because it gives us a very clear metric for the difference between Katniss and Peeta's emotional bandwidth. At any given moment, she's about 45 mins behind whatever realization he just came to. And they're gonna end up in the same place, at the same conclusion its just gonna take her an extra sec to get there give her a minute
I think itโs kind of funny how coin (who obviously wanted peeta rescued from the arena instead of katniss) doesnโt see what an absolute nightmare he would be for her to deal with if she left katniss in that arena
Like she thinks katniss was hard to deal with/manipulate/control after she left peeta behind? Peeta wouldโve had her whole district eating out to the palm of his hand before she even realized who she was dealing with. She thought katniss was too single minded/stubborn about her focus on saving peeta over the revolution itself? He would have been her absolute nightmare (and I adore him for it)
โI just stare into those burning blue eyes, letting her know sheโs not dying alone. Sheโs with family. Sheโs with me. In her last moments, she released her grip enough to lock her pinkie around mine. Looking, I think, for a final confirmation of the promise we made to eachother. I not so she knows I understand and that I will try my best to bring the Capitol down, although I have never felt so powerless in my entire life.โ (SOTR 307)
In the end, he does fulfils his promise. To Maysilee. To Ampert. And to Lenore Dove.
