The Washington DC native is known for playing guitar for various bands like The Clichéd and Scream It’s Over, and has worked with numerous others in the DMV area. “For years, I’ve always been known as a guitarist, And I had no problem with that. Playing guitar is and will always be my main ability,” he says “But this year I want to show everyone there’s more to me as an artist than just that: I also play many other instruments, produce, write songs, and yes…I sing.”
Bobby “Kid Jimi” Sherrill started writing his own original songs just as a hobby back in 2010 but it wasn’t until after his family and him was evicted early 2011 he began to take Kid Jimi seriously. Seeing his family struggle after losing heir home motivated him so he moved in with a close friend and recorded his first mixtape DREAM ON. After it’s release in April 2011 the mixtape got major results he never expected to happen and eventually caught the attention of labels and artists in the industry, including Roscoe Dash. “That was when I almost had my dream handed to me, but due to complications with the label, everything was put on hold” he says, “I never would’ve thought I’d get so close to making my dream a reality at only 19 years old” Since then, theres had been many ups and downs throughout 2011 which motivated him to write, record, and produce his second Mixtape JUST IMAGINE which was released January 10th, 2012. “Just Imagine is a perfect description of the past year and my hopes for 2012,” Jimi says “It took me 4 months to write so every song on it is a situation I experienced last year, but I know they (The Industry) will be listening to this once it drops so It has to be perfect. And I hope once the world hears it they’ll enjoy it, understand it, and relate to it.”
After the release of the JUST IMAGINE mixture, Jimi continued to promo and perform at shows opening for acts such as Radical Something. Eventually he returned to the studio to work on a summer project following JUST IMAGINE, an EP titled SHINE ON. Since June he has been working on this six track project, he stated in a recent radio interview “I know its been 2 months since I’ve released any new songs since Just Imagine, and now its time to see a new side of me. Shine On is more than just the music, its redefining myself as an artist yet keeping my original roots. Its coming out from dark times into a new light, thats the meaning behind Shine On.” With two singles including “Signs” and “Deja Vu” Shine On will be available on iTunes September 3rd.
