LONDON –The Goldfish Pool at Chartwell, the final work that Sir Winston Churchill painted, will feature in the Modern & Post-War British Art sale in London on 21 November.

CHURCHILL SELF PORTRAIT Winston Churchill began painting as a hobby at the age of 40. For Churchill, the art of painting was mastered only when all of the intricate details involved aimed toward a fixed purpose, or in Churchill’s words, “a single unity of conception.” Churchill produced nearly 600 paintings during his lifetime.

Winston Churchill was a dedicated painter. At home, on holiday and even on the battlefield, his oils were rarely far from hand. This fall, the National Churchill Museum and the Kemper Art Museum are presenting one of the most significant shows of Churchill's work ever in North America.
