Color corresponds to value. Ever looked through red acetate or a sheet of red plastic? You see like a dog...woof, woof. You see a value range from light to dark but no chroma or color. You can paint with one color, be it in red, blue , yellow or really any damn color that floats your boat. Here's kinda the progression of the previous Swisher portrait post. A LOT of in between playing/searching steps are missing. That's what I like about painting in acrylic, it allows changes within minutes. No scraping or long dry times like oils. Shorter blending time, but that doesn't bother me.

All three watercolor portraits were painted on 140 lb. cold press watercolor paper, 11 by 15 inches in size. The black gentleman was painted mostly wet-on-wet in about thirty minutes. The gentleman holding the camera was painted mostly wet-on-dry over the coarse of three days in one to two hour sessions.
