Hering's Nerve, which is also known as the carotid sinus branch of the glossopharyngeal nerve (Cn iX, or ramus pharyngei nervi glossopharyngei), innervates the baroreceptors in the wall of the carotid sinus and the chemoreceptors in the carotid body. It was originally named "the nerve of Hering" after Austrian-born physiologist Heinrich Ewald Hering  (1866–1948) who began researching the carotid sinus reflex in dogs using electrical stimulation.
