Melissa (Mel) Garroutte - costume designer & maker on Instagram: "There are a plethora of methods to make corsets and I’ve used several of them! This is my favorite way to create boning channels, but definitely not the only one.

🔅I always use 1/4” spiral steel boning.
🔅This method works best with at least a 5/8” seam allowance.
🔅 Use coutil or a tightly woven heavier canvas as your structural layer.

Geraldine Kok-Berman on Instagram: "Inserting #boning in the bodice of my #dreamfrock #sewingpattern by @lydianaomistudio Large-scale pink and turquoise floral print by @stylemakerfabrics This is Rigilene boning that can be sewn directly onto the garment in the seam allowances. But I created channels instead for this project. I am not sure if this is a legit way of sealing the cut tips, but it works. The flame melts the sharp ends, and the plastic can be quickly shaped into rounded ends so that they don’t cut into the fabric. There are silicone tips that can be bought for this function, but i chose the cheaper way.
