Painting flowers can be very intimidating, but it doesn’t have to be! ☺️🌸 I’m not a Master (yet 😂☺️), BUT here is my step-by-step process for painting roses. 🌸 It’s easier when you break it down by shape! 🌸 If you’re a beginner, try working with only one color to get the technique. You can use many different tints and shades. 🌸Lastly, leave highlights until the very end. It’s the shadows that really bring the flowers to life. Don’t overuse white! I’ve already posted about it several times throughout the last few weeks, so take a look to see the whole process from start to finish. (Finish?) Yesterday I decided to take a chance with this piece in order to get more subtlety in the colors and edges. I oiled out the whole painting and sanded it down with wet/dry 1500 grit sandpaper. Sanding the painting removes some of the paint texture, which makes it much easier to work over. Some of the edges are also naturally softened or lost as the sandpaper abrades the surface. It’s a very fun but nerve-racking technique - at least at first.
