Splaugh🇵🇭 on Instagram: "“Sinbad the Sailor” is a hero of a literary-cycle. He was a late addition to “One Thousand & One Nights” / “Arabian Nights”. In the stories, he hails from c. 8th - 9th centuries CE Baghdad (Abbasid Caliphate). Sources claim there already were Arabic curved swords during the time but I couldn’t find the archaeological evidences so what I used is a little earlier - the sword of Caliph Umar. From what I gathered, straight swords were still the staple in the time period. Clothing were based on the closest finds around the Islamic area such as Sogdiana. I also kind of based roughly on the later Mamluk period as I thought it wouldn’t be too far off in terms of material culture. They’re one of the closest available material that I could get. #sinbad #sinbadthesailor #a Abbasid Caliphate Clothing, Baghdad Abbasid, Abbasid Caliphate, Sinbad The Sailor, Curved Swords, Period Clothing, The Sailor, One Thousand, Arabian Nights
