Tobias Konrath on Instagram: "Easy French seams!
Going back to basics today for the first time sewists!

If you don’t have an overlock - it doesn’t mean that you need to walk around with an unfinished garment - make French seams instead! This nifty & old school way of sewing turn the raw edges into neatly bound seam allowances that kind of look like a sausage.
The trick is to sew a small SA of 0,5 cm (¼”) with the wrong sides facing - press and turn it - and then sew again with 1 cm (⅜”) SA with the right sides facing!

Voilá! Ps fun fact in French it’s actually called “couture anglaise” which literally translates into “ English seam” !
I wonder who is blaming who for inventing it 😅✌️

Tobias Konrath on Instagram: "Okay - so this is a total GAME CHANGER! 🥰

You guys know that I’m slightly obsessed with french seams and This technique is perfect for i.e. the lazy top, minimalist shirt and all the garments with French seams that need to go around a corner!

Usually there is a certain amount of puckering - but not if you do it like this! Basically we are creating 2 french seams to keep the corner clear.
In this reel I’m drawing the seam allowances straight onto the fabric to make the technique more visible! By the wayIf there is a shoulder seam - it’s exactly the same!

Please try and let me know how it went in the comments!

A detailed post with illustrations will come soon :)
Ps:it also kind of works the other way around.

Happy sewing, Tobi x
