Ceramics are probably the most common of all art forms to have emerged from human history and are one of the oldest inventions. The first evidence of human-made ceramics dates back to at least 24,000 years BC! While the technology and applications have steadily increased, the use of this form of art stayed pretty much the same. Just like before, we make use of ceramics as containers for water and food, art objects, tiles and bricks and so on.

Kirsty Kash on Instagram: "Smooth gradients can be tricky to achieve with underglazes because they don’t look the same after firing as they do straight out of the jar!! Here are a few things I’ve figured out over the years: 1. Avoid applying layers of colour in straight lines. When the bands of colour flow up and down organically with your design the gradient will appear smoother. 2. I rarely use a pure colour straight out of the jar. Introduce a little bit of the next colour from the beginning so that the shift will be more subtle. Amaco’s Velvet underglazes are my favourite because they mix so well and the colours are so vibrant! 3. Some pigments are shy and others take over! For example, Amaco’s Red velvet Pottery With Words, Amaco Glaze Layering, Velvet Underglaze, Amaco Glazes, Happy Pride Month, Clay Texture, Ceramic Inspiration, Happy Pride, Color Glaze

The first clay was a speckled brown clay by Standard and the second clay is Bmix by Laguna; a white, porcelaneous stoneware. . While working on my first collection of the speckled clay, I managed to squeeze in these yunomis using the Bmix. The next collection will be made predominantly using Bmix and will (in theory) look much like these pieces in this video. . A breakdown of the process shown: after bisque, a purple underglaze wash is applied and then the excess is wiped off. Blue painters tape is used to mask the leading edge of the rim. . White stroke and coat glaze is mixed with red and green food coloring.
