But I find it so funny buying a bag of something that is literally laying on the ground - FOR FREE! So, let’s make our own! The first thing you will need to do is find conifers (these are trees that produce cones). Then comes the fun part - hunting for cones on the ground! You should easily find them scattered about the understory of the trees. Once you have gathered enough, bring them home & set them outside for a bit to give bugs a chance to escape. Then it’s time to bake them on a low temperature to dry them out, make sure they are bug free & to melt off/bake in any sap that is on the pinecones. Place them on a foil-lined baking tray & bake at 225 degrees Fahrenheit for 30 minutes, flipping the cones halfway through. If the cones were wet, you may need to bake them for an extra 15 minutes to make sure they are fully dry. Do not exceed a temperature of 225 degrees Fahrenheit & keep a close watch on your pinecones while they are in the oven. Sap is flammable, so take extra care when applying heat. Once the pinecones have cooled, bag them up in a gallon Ziploc bag & add the essential oil! How much you add is up to your preference, but I would generally recommend between 10-20 drops. My favorite place to get essential oils is from @mountainroseherbs - they have an excellent selection of organic, cosmetic grade, sustainably sourced essential oils. I highly recommend them! The last part may be the hardest - waiting! You want to give these pinecones about a week to absorb the essential oil. I would recommend keeping your bag on a non porous surface (such as a metal tray) as the scent will start to leach from the bag and could attach to whatever it is near. After a week, you can start using them! I love to keep them in a bowl as decoration, but you can add them to your tree, your garland, or as a fragrant embellishment to your gifts! And if the scent starts to fade, pop them back in a bag & add more essential oil. These can be used year over year! #holidaycrafts #diyholidaydecor #naturecrafts #crafting | Sami Small | Quick Solutions for Simplifying Your Life | mzsamissolutions · Original audio
