I’m watching Splash (1984) which is a romcom about a guy who falls in love with a mermaid, and when she chooses a human name she chooses Madison and guy says “that’s not a real name, but alright” which seems to imply that Madison was not a name until at least the 80’s and all girls named Madison are actually named after the mermaid. thought you should know

Anti-AI articles: AI uses massive amounts of resources.
Pro-AI articles: data centers use massive amounts of resources, but that mostly isn’t AI.
Anti-AI posters on Tumblr: the pro-AI articles are lying. This anti-AI article specifically says AI uses massive amounts of resources.
Personally, I have no idea how to evaluate if someone’s lying about this.
Ah, the classic “should I do something that indirectly incentivizes/disincentivizes the thing I like/hate even though there’s no direct connection between my action and the thing?”
Inference is very cheap; training is very expensive. If you use AI, you are using very little energy and water, but you are proving that there is demand for AI products, and thus incentivizing the use of massive amounts of energy and water for future training runs.
Of course, you can apply the same logic to pirating movies that giant corporations make and many other small acts that in themselves aren’t harmful yet have unknown incentivizing forces which might be.
Alexander the Great swung his sword to cut the Gordian knot, but his sword struck on metal.
“I neglected to mention”, said the sage who had informed Alexander about the knot in the first place, “There is a flexible steel cord inside the rope, specifically to prevent you from cutting it.”
Alexander pondered. “What if I burned it?”
The sage laughed. “Steel doesn’t burn, idiot. Also, you shouldn’t burn the rope because it’s synthetic. Who knows what kind of harmful chemicals might be released.”
Alexander weighed the pros and cons. On one hand, he didn’t want to inhale noxious chemicals. On the other, king of Asia. He came to a determination.
“It’s not like I’m gonna be inhaling these chemicals every day. Just this once.” And so he burnt the rope. Once it had mostly sloughed off, untangling the thinner coil was easy.
Moral of the story: It’s ok to burn synthetics sometimes.
did you know red snapper can live for over 100 years…. whatre they DOING down there
I hope this doesn’t work the same way for centaurs.
yes
on your right you’ll see an absolutely horrifying depiction of the mermaid growth cycle, but one that makes the fantasy writer within me incredibly giddy because this is such an amazing concept

Something must be wrong with me, I haven't talked about the beadnet dress in forever.
It consists of seven thousand faience beads in blue green and blue to imitate turquoise and lapis lazuli. It is 4600 years old (the threading is modern, but the beads were found in their original pattern so this reconstruction is as accurate as it can be). It is one of the most gorgeous garments in existence and was owned by a woman who was a contemporary of king Khufu.
The dress was found in her tomb in Giza, known as Tomb G 7440 Z, and it's the earliest known garment of this type.

I think if you support a clothing optional spaces but don’t support the idea of everybody being naked because some bodies ‘make people uncomfortable’ I don’t think you really support clothing optional spaces
I just think it’s really weird when people say “free the nipple” and “allow people to be nude” but then freak out about the idea that trans people would be nude in the world they want. Do you support free the nipple or not.
People who fight for allowing public nudity and clothing optional spaces need to accept in the world they are fighting for they will see trans men’s pussies, they will see trans women’s penises, they will see trans titties, they will see trans people with phallo, trans people with neopussies, intersex people with all combinations of primary and secondary sex traits, they will see naked fat people, they will see naked disabled people, they will see the parts of people of all kinds.
You can’t just say the only naked people you want to see is people you’re attracted to and that everyone else has to wear clothes because you don’t like them.
