Fantasy first, everything else second, you've stumbled across the blog of Jay M. Enjoy your stay!

Introduction

I just realized that after about half a year of writing on here, give or take with huge gaps in between, I've never properly introduced myself. So...

Hi, my name is Jay, or Lassie if you prefer. I'm a 30-something writer way too obsessed with faery tales for my own good, and as such I am deciding to share that obsession with others. My current work has been in my head for about 16 years which I finally got onto paper over National Novel Writing Month this most recent November, code named Project Task Master. Any relevant information about it will be in that name as a tag. In the meantime, I also do flash fiction and poetry to keep my quill properly inked. If you like what you see here feel free to follow-- if you're especially brave, interact too! I love getting random messages in my inbox. You never know how you'll make your next friend.

Wow, digital writing is hard. Hi, I'm here. I've just found I do much better with analog, pen and paper; and doing the Artist's Way for the past 63 days has been a godsend, if you don't mind the religious (specifically abrahamic) reference throughout.

In the news people care about, Project Task Master is coming along... Glacially, at this point. Mental and physical struggles are getting in the way but I can't allow that. If I'm going to get this story told the way I want so others can see it too, I'm going to have to give it more focus and love. I am excited to share. Just not yet.

Someday I will reliably get back to my blog and do some short stories. Sooner rather than later for my own benefit. Maybe I'll add that to my list of to-dos.

A couple artist friends' praise is enough to bolster my courage, so I present to you the first humanoid thing I have drawn in about three years, the very rough sketch of my d&d character, Amethystle. She says hi warily but and is ready to make a light hearted joke about something in the background to endear herself to whoever says hi back.

I've been writing... Sporadically with the process of editing. Nothing has seemed to stick for making me stay on task. Except for one thing. The pomodoro method calls for one to use a kitchen timer or something similar as a time tracker, and that's been magical to have a device that ticks down the time like my new red fox buddy I picked out. His name is Stormy (time, tempus, tempest, Stormy; it makes sense to me anyway).

But I have something on the horizon sure to kickstart my creativity. The second heartbeat of this blog, my dear friend @mysticstarlightduck , has gotten me into my very first dungeons and dragons game with her. I've wanted to play for years and now I can. The math and statistics are going to be a lot for me to track and I hope I'm up for it, but my beloved halfling warlock I've had waiting for over a decade has a chance to spread her... Uh, toes? She doesn't have wings, so...

That's my update for you fine folks. I'll be trying to report less inconsistently with progress as I make more of it.

Hello writing friend! I'm glad you are reading this. Your writing is amazing and I hope you keep going. The world needs your words: an obvious fact.

A lesser known fact: you need your words too. Don't stop <3

#9 and 21 for the ask game?

Thank you for the ask! <3

9. So I have two current projects going-- I couldn't stay away from Project Task Master, not even for a week (lmao). That one is about my half-faery/half-human character Elva and her adventures in healing both herself and others, as well as her mysterious master whose profession she is undertaking. And then I also have Project Hoodie, which is about a high schooler named Adam and the new Scottish exchange student Fiona. (I'm really just running on vibes alone here, so I don't have too much about them yet. They're likely going to be my nano project for April)

21. My favorite character to write is by far that master I mentioned, Caricus. He's a little jerk, but he's good at what he does and has a lot of layers. As far as fae go he's just a charismatic lasagna of regret by the time we see his story reach an end.

Reblog, click the picture, and prepare for battle.

OH MY GOD I WAS NOT EXPECTING THAT

WOW IT REALLY IS SOMETHING FREAKING GOOD PLEASE CHECK IT OUT

Okay, if this is a rickroll I swear to…

1) It was not a rickroll

2) It was super awesome!

3) No jumpscare or anything designed to freak you out, so doesn’t need an unreality warning (YMMV, of course).

Stuff I accumulated from the replies:

Go on desktop or any device that has a physical keyboard. It’s supposed to lead to https://zty.pe, and you can also just search up Ztype on any browser and it’s the first result. It is a typing shoot-em-up game, and it does not work on mobile. You really don’t have to reblog this.

Oh, dang, this is so much fun!

Hello! I have updated the Chapter 1 preview for Kiss of Death on my blog! Please read and give feedback if you have time, it'll mean the world to me. :)

Jane's life had always been planned out for her. She would marry some rich man off on the mainland and never see her home again. That was, as soon as her father found a suitable husband for her. A plan that had been solidified as soon as her mother disappeared. But something always happens to ruin plans, and Jane finds herself on a pirate ship with a grimoire she knows nothing about. After all, magic wasn't supposed to exist anyway. Stuck there with men who want her dead, a book of magic she now has to protect, and a pirate captain who may be more than a friend, Jane begins a journey of magic, love, and adventure that was never supposed to happen.

Go read my friend Bee's work; they're a talented writer who deserves the world and I want to boost them!

How the heck do you backstory? How the heck do you research? I'm not used to having new ideas for a story and they are scaring me with how blank my mind is for context. Project task master was in my head for half my life, but now this? I have nothing. Just vibes, and barely those. It's like I'm trying to bake a cake out of sugar and trying to source how to use and find what ingredients I need next before knowing what they are.

Oh boy, I'm totally lost. But it's kind of fun, this unknown.
