The other time I watched this movie I was 15 or 16, so it's safe to say I've seen a lot more movies and have a better critical eye for cinema. I can also say I've seen some Hitchcock movies and he's not my favorite. This one's a classic for a reason. The atmosphere, the singular effect, the suspense is real. That infamous shower scene scares people TO THIS DAY and it's not because of the gore, although I'm sure even seeing blood was considered gory at the time, it's because of the fear it creates. Hitchcock's signature voyeurism creates an atmosphere of paranoia and tension like no other. He really nailed terrifying, leering men, which is in itself funny because Hitchcock was one of them and I'm not giving him any points for self-awareness on this one. Half a star reduction for that dogshit "psychiatrist" ending, but the actual final scene of Norman monologging in his head is a thoroughly creepy and a stellar save from that onslaught of hackneyed explanation.
