Maybe I'm a contrarian and any film with this much hype was always gonna fall short for me... But nowhere near as funny and original as people are making it out to be?? This is not the film of the year??
My main issue is with Anora as a character - she felt really underdeveloped, so it was hard to connect with the story which ultimately just centres on her naivety... I get that there may be a broader commentary on sex workers and society, but there really was hardly any insight into why she’s drawn into a fairytale romance with this obnoxious little twerp despite her better judgment?? And if it was entirely superficial and she was just in it for the money doesn't she kind of get what's coming to her?? I think the story would have been sooo much stronger if there was more focus on her interority. I know that's controversial though...
Also we've seen the whole 'unite a ragtag group of characters with a common goal and then shove them in the back of the car and let them have at it' setup before and honestly...it's funnier in It's Always Sunny
