An example of "Betty Boop as Mother Figure". Due to increasing censorship, the character transitioned from a sex symbol to something more domestic. It makes the cartoons stand out less but there is a dog named Pudgy now and he is cute. Hard to complain about that!

As a cat person I may be sad that cats (as they often are in cartoons, especially old ones) are made out to be the bad or at least annoying ones here, but I also love how the cat’s physicality is captured. The detail in its movements really stood out to me, especially in comparison to how Pudgy’s are bent more towards cutesy purposes. The gags in this one were pretty good, notably for the creepiness of Pudgy breaking the fourth wall after he’s been scratched: “he pulled a knife on me!” My favorite though is one when they’re falling from the roof and the cat keeps flipping over to the land on his feet on each landing, but Pudgy lands on him and they tumble down to the next one. It’s repeated twice and kept making me laugh.
This here is a better than average Betty Boop short that finds the beauty fast asleep with Pudgy when an alley cat starts to meow and eventually wakes them up. The cat won't stop even after Betty asks so Pudgy goes after him, which leads to a wild and adventurous chase.
NOT NOW contained enough laughs and action to make it worth sitting through even though Betty herself is basically just here for a cameo. The entire film belongs to Pudgy and this cat as the two of them chase each other through the streets, fight, chase some more and all of it leads up to a very funny ending. I'm certainly not going to ruin the final shot but…
Needed way more Betty. I dug the backgrounds though.
You can definitely tell the Fleischers are running out of interest in Betty herself.
“He pulled a knife on me!”
"Not Now" is what I say every time a pudgy short comes on
Somewhat desexualized Betty Boop cartoon with some nice animation and really great backgrounds.
Personally, having a cat outside my window would not be a problem
Yes now
A great Betty Boop and Pudgy movie with the little dogs attempt to deal with a noisy cat backfires big-time. This one is great fun.
