This is a made-for-tv/streaming Star Trek movie spun off from the Discovery series, but with only one character crossover. I point out that its made-for-TV, because it certainly doesn't belong among the cinematic history of Star Trek films. Even Final Frontier is a masterpiece in comparison.

Right from the initial exposition dump intro, its easy to tell this is going to be a rough go. This is an irritating movie which tries really hard to have personal stakes but fails, as it tries to cram in mirror universe lore from the series into this that just doesn't work. The threat is a typical find a macguffin that can destroy everything. No part of this story is satisfying.

And then we get to the team. Sigh.... What an impressive ensemble of awful performances. The worst of which are the guy who plays the shapeshifter and the woman who plays the Starfleet agent (who is a hard-ass at one point, and then sings about how she loves chaos at another??). Even Michelle Yeoh is awful here.

This bear very little resemblance to Star Trek, even the modern Trek like Discovery which many fans have an issue with already. This is so far outside the bare minimum standards of what should be acceptable in this series. Give me "Michael Row Your Boat Ashore" any day.
