There is this picturesque, culturally-ingrained image of an ideal life as just this cutesy little game/play. It’s the main crux of most prevalent media (TV, movies, advertisements, TikToks etc). We want to see what’s beyond the sharade but we seldom can; there is a felt presence of an inconspicuously ingrained current or structure — the body the invisible hand is attached to — something that would make sense of all the absurdity and mundane pageantry. But you will never be…

    it’s not even nostalgia

the kind of experience that makes you feel silly for even considering typing out how gorgeous it looks, how well acted it is, how several of the songs never left your rotation since you looked up the soundtrack on Spotify after walking out of the theater. You know, stuff you’d normally talk about for a film with those qualities.

The feeling of staring in the mirror, for no particular reason. Staring right into your pupils until…

Parasite + Persona ! No, it doesn't quite reach the height of either. But it's really good, might I be so bold as to say the cinematography is "really fucking good". Legit perfect. Kind of can't find any flaws in general. I just wish it had gone even darker, but to me that's not really a valid criticism, and considering when it was released, this is still an incredible feat.

Looks and sounds incredible, thanks flylo.

Maybe I'm biased, but I think its rating is not justified. I mean, in a vacuum 3 stars, sure why not. But relative to how other movies are rated on here, it's not. The most common thing I've read is it recycles too many tropes, which is fair/true but the package as a whole is very unique. Panos Cosmatos' films from an art direction POV are the only thing I've seen that's remotely comparable.…

After watching 2001 twice yesterday, and even watching most of it in a dream once more, I finally feel I can give some sort of written perspective of this movie, which I consider the greatest feat in cinema I am aware of.

2001 began with a simple mission: Kubrick wanted to make the first "quality" Sci-Fi movie. Throughout the process of writing source material, there was a literal novel's worth of description, backstory, and dialogue that got distilled and distilled…

    SK13: Kubrick's Endgame

A must watch for all Kubrick and Eyes Wide Shut fans (available here). I regard it as the densest movie I've seen and this doc definitely reinforced that perception. I was a bit nervous going in because the trailer is horrible and I hated how the director's previous Kubrick doc was edited, but it turned out to be overall very well done.

I'm surprised it was so short. There was so much more that could have been explored that wasn't.…
