Colin’s review published on Letterboxd:
I grew up when the TV series was airing, but I had never gone back and watched the original film!
I would have watched it a lot sooner if someone had told me the head vampire was played by Rutger Hauer, and the lead henchmen was played by Paul motherf*ckn Reubens!
The tone of the film is very tongue and cheek, and it took me a while to tune in to the tone they were putting down, but once I saw what they were doing it clicked.
I think having previously seen episodes of the series I was expecting something a little more soap-opera-esque, but I gotta say the tone of the film is better. I enjoyed the school councilor (played by Stephen Root) dropping detention slips on the vampire corpses littering the gym floor.
Donald Sutherland does a good job as Buffy's mentor (although his death scene was rather inexplicable).
All in all a good flick.
