Had to watch again to make sure I didn’t miss anything the first time I thought it was SO MID. My thoughts have not changed. Sean Baker is the all American darling right now, being praised for telling a story “from the margins” when it just ends up being another tale of a characterless, money-hungry, woman as a protagonist. She is beautiful, she seems to know how to be able to use this, but she only talks about money. Money, money, money. What about her other interests? Portraying her as someone who is so easy to be manipulated does not successfully allow us to get closer to who Ani is.

As Kanye said, “I like some of Gaga’s songs, but what the fuck does she know about cameras?”. Therefore, I like some of Sean Baker’s movies, but what the fuck does he know about portraying women?
