“It’s a bold strategy Cotton. Let’s see if it pays off for ‘em.”

I had a lot of fun with this one! This movie’s influence on pop culture was clearly significant because I was familiar with several of the references that it created, most notably the line I quoted above. While it’s fair to say that DodgeBall: A True Underdog Story is predictable at every turn, the premise is so great for a comedy that it doesn’t suffer from its predictability.

I do think it’s worth pointing out that Ben Stiller absolutely carried this movie in his role as White Goodman, though. Without him, I don’t think it would have been nearly as good. He’s such a great comedic actor, and some of his line deliveries are gold. My personal favorites of his from this movie are:

“Well I can be naughty too… real FREAKY naughty.”

“You can close your little rule book on that one… poindexter.”

Jason Bateman’s hard-hitting color commentary as Pepper Brooks was great as well. I loved when he bluntly chimed in with all of those obvious, useless, or stupid observations during the dodgeball games.

Overall, DodgeBall: A True Underdog Story is a stupid comedy that works well mainly due to Stiller’s hilarious performance. It’s a great movie to watch if you just want to be entertained.
