Páll Kristinn Jakobsson’s review published on Letterboxd:
I grew up watching Michael Bay films yet this is the first one I've seen at the cinema.
I already knew this screening was going to be special because of that but then things got even more special.
I was the only person at the screening.
I had the whole auditorium for myself as I got a large dose of pure uncut Bayhem injected directly into my eyeballs.
I only have one word to describe this experience:
T R A N S C E N D E N T
I find it pretty interesting that with this film Michael Bay decided to keep his worst qualities at bay (hehe) while fully indulging in all of his best qualities.
Gone are the stupid racial jokes and the constant objectification of every female that isn't plus sized or over 30.
Cam is one of the main characters and she is fully clothed the whole time and there are only two close ups of her butt in the whole film, and those two close ups seem like they may have happened by accident.
Meanwhile he goes full God mode in orchestration some absolutely bonkers batshit action scenes.
About 80% of the film is literally one huge car chase and the other 20% is spent on shootouts and plot stuff.
I was in a state of constant adrenaline fueled euphoria while watching it.
This is the closest Bay has come to creating a religious experience in film form and I couldn't be happier.
He even seems to have found some empathy and genuine human emotions along the way.
Which is nice.
