every thing bill has written changed my life, I am who I am today because of him. I obviously didn't know him personally, but he was a huge part of my self-discovery. may his memory be a blessing.
i'm so sad to hear that william finn, the writer of many musicals such as 25th annual putnam county spelling bee, a new brain, and the marvin trilogy, passed away yesterday. he's been one of my favorite musical composers with the way he develops his characters. falsettos is one of my favorite musicals of all time and the marvin trilogy, in my opinion, was and still remains such an important collection of shows that touched on so many important themes. i was in a production of spelling bee, and it was one of the best acting experiences i've ever had and remains a very dear to me. such an amazing composer and lyricist. rest in peace :(
Words cannot express how much of an impact William Finn's music had on my life. Falsettos changed me in ways I think I can never truly know. All I do know is I would not be the person I am today without it.
There is so much I could say about his works, most of which I cannot articulate this late at night, but which I will try to finally find the words for soon. l've seen the best and worst parts of myself, of my life, reflected back at me in his music.
I could not let myself go to sleep tonight without at least saying a few words, so sincerely thank you William Finn for creating what you did. It has meant so much to me, as a queer person and as a human being.
Everything will be alright.
