Typology is one of the most prominent of these methods, where the material is categorised into types according to morphology and geometry. There is an ongoing debate regarding the subjectivity of the typological approach and the problems that follow this issue. In recent years, there has also been an increase in the use of digital methods in archaeology to tackle many of the problems present in previous archaeological work, but this has mostly focused on field and
buildings archaeology. This thesis therefore aimed at testing and discussing the application of digital methods of documentation and analysis within the field of material studies. It was investigated how a digital approach could aid and solve some of the current issues of the field of study, but also how it can further improve the science. This was done by establishing
a digital work-flow, conducting analyses and discussing the theoretical and methodological aspects of the digital approach. It was concluded that there are several advantages to be
gained from using the digital method, especially in detail-oriented studies and surface analyses, and that it can also be employed to greatly improve the typological method in
regards to the debate of subjectivity, but that the method must be used in a proper way for this to be achieved. It can also aid in the spread of knowledge and documentation within the
archaeological discipline, as well as providing the tools for deeper analysis and understanding into the material culture.

The project focused on complementing the documentation of the S:t Olofsholm excavation of 2013/2014, through the use of digital techniques. The site was documented using Image-Based Modelling and the project aimed to discuss and evaluate the use and implications of such technologies in archaeological work and building documentation. The project is presented as a more detailed text version as well as in the form of a poster.

The aim of this thesis is to interpret and discuss the weapon-graves of Viking Age Birka. The weapon-grave phenomenon is deemed differential in relation to the rest of the grave-material
of the site, and thus the questions that motivate the thesis is: who was buried with weapons and why? Further questions arise regarding the social aspects of individuals who were buried along with weapons. The theoretical approach will be to evaluate any differences in 'social class', 'social age' and 'gender' between the weapon-grave contexts. By conducting qualitative and quantified analysis of the grave-goods, this thesis adresses both overall and detailed patterns in correlation and constellations between weapons, other grave-goods and terms of burial.

The site show two churches on top of each other, where the younger church has been one of the biggest romanesque churches on Gotland. Below the churches and outside, there are several graves of young men, where at least two of the men has extensive marks of fierce battle. The question is raced if the actually might be part of King Olaf Haraldsson's army, killed in a battle with the Gotlanders 1029-30. Sorry to say, the report is only in Swedish.
