Theme #12: Chances

Preview  | Install

Chances is a writing-focused/text-heavy theme equipped. As such, it allows for a custom google font along with customizable font size, line height, letter spacing, and font weight. There’s a story section where you can showcase your work, choosing from two different styles. Styling the story section, though, requires some knowledge of HTML though I’ve also tried to clearly explain things in the code itself.

Features:

  • Responsive design
  • Story section (bookmark button)

Requires some HTML knowledge. Guides and examples in the code. Just press CTRL + F on Windows or CMD + F on Mac and type “story” (w/o the quotation marks)

  • Story section has two styles: Original and Fanfiction in the examples

While the examples are set a certain way (Original to link to posts on your blog and Fanfiction to link to outside websites), they can be used the same way. It just depends on how you want the info formatted

  • Day/night mode
  • Post size: 500px, 540px, 600px, 650px, 700px
  • Gap Between Posts: 32px - 96px
  • Photoset Gaps: 0px - 10px
  • Color options: Post, Backgrounds, Fonts, Accents, etc (30+)
  • Font Size: 12px - 20px
  • Line Height: 12px - 30px
  • Popup menu (more links button)
  • Optional: 4 customizable links, use Tumblr pages, post shadow, rounded corners on posts, header
  • Custom google font

  1. A new addon for Tumblr theme development

So as its probably obvious to anyone seeing this, I am in the process of tinkering with my theme :)

As frustrating as it is to use native Tumblr theme editor, this new addon I've made to help with that.

    What does it do?

It allows you to keep your theme locally on your computer and edit it with your program of choice, such as Notepad or VSCode or whatever you may choose.

Then, when you go to your blog you will see a set of buttons in the top right corner. Clicking "Refresh" button saves theme from your local files to your blog.

You can also use this addon from the Tumblr theme editor.

Important! As it is always the best idea, backup your theme somewhere before using this addon. (It can be the same folder you store your project in as extension cannot affect local files in any way).

We’ve made some big updates to our Custom Theme documentation to help you create themes that support our Neue Post Format (NPF) and un-nested reblog UI.

    What’s New:

In case you missed it, we’ve updated the Theme Garden to feature a collection of NPF-compatible themes (marked with a red star).

  1. logged back into tumblr for the first time in months and immediately saw a zionist using one of my themes. anyways, here's a reminder that zionists, islamophobes, anti-arab, antisemites, racists of all kinds, terfs, transphobes, homophobes, and the like are not welcome here and are not welcome to use my themes. gtfo. normally, it's an honour that people are still using my increasingly broken themes but not when it's on a blog spewing disgusting racist bullshit.

to the rest of you, it's still an honour.

I’m also tempted to update Crush & Sweet Jam. The former because some posts are a mess and the latter because it’s the theme I’m most unsatisfied with. I just hate working on things after I declared them “finished

  1. yknow i never noticed the sheer rareness of images having ids or alt text on this website until i started adding alt text to my art (and trying to remember to add it to any images i post in general, especially text screenshots) and that makes me kinda sad

  2. I feel like a lot of people just don't know how to do it or are intimidated by the prospect. I was too, actually, and I couldn't find any good guides on how to do it (beyond basic formatting) and most guides boiled down to "just describe what you see and important details!" I really wanted to add alt text bc accessibility is important to me, but I would always get kinda stumped on how to do it.

[Image ID: A guide to writing alt text on images. At the top, it says "Writing Alt Text" in big white text. It then lists off five major steps to writing alt text. Identify who, expression, description, color, and interesting features. It then shows an image of a capybara, with a sample alt text that reads, "A capybara looking relaxed in a hot spa. Yellow yuzu fruits are floating in the water, and one is balanced on top of the capybara's head." with each block of text color-coordinated to show which of the five steps it corresponds to. At the bottom of the image is the word "Puzzle" stylized into a logo. End ID.]ALT

But then I saw this image, I think in a discord server, and I immediately started doing it. It kinda broke the ice for me
