wait do you support russia?

read-marx-and-lenin answered:

Do I “support” the bourgeois Russian Federation, the product of a counter-revolutionary plot to overthrow the world’s first and oldest socialist state? Of course not.

Do I “support” Ukraine, also bourgeois and a product of the same counter-revolutionary plot, whose modern national identity has drawn heavily from reactionary anti-communist mythmaking, most egregiously the revival of the “double genocide” narrative despite the notion of a Ukrainian genocide having been long since debunked? Also no.

Do I support the West’s attempts to secure hegemony over key strategic resources in the Donbass and Crimea by fueling right-wing Ukrainian nationalist sentiment and throwing Ukrainian workers into the meat grinder of war? No.

Do I support the RF’s irredentist warmongering and invasions of Crimea and the Donbass for the same purposes of securing their own hegemony over said strategic resources? Also no.

Do I believe the propagandistic framing from both sides that this war has anything to do with freedom and sovereignty and helping the little guy fight the good fight against overwhelming odds? Of course not.

Do I believe that the Russian Federation are imperialists or that they aim to take over Europe? No. Do I believe that Ukraine is a fascist nation committing genocide against Russophones? Also no.

So what then do I believe? I have always believed that this conflict must come down to a diplomatic solution. I am entirely unconcerned as to whether or not Ukraine gets to keep its land. I don’t care which side controls it and I would much rather have the working class of both sides unite once again under the banner of socialism. In any case, I think this kind of bourgeois squabbling comes at the cost of human lives and is undesirable no matter which side you think is in the right. Neither side is fighting for the interests of the working class, and at times like these I would say “no war but the class war”.

Something something the fact that post-apocalyptic Usamerican media sees the post-apocalypse as a way to play with a colonial frontier fantasy something

"Oh great! Society has collapsed! Let me grab my Cool 2nd Amendment Self-Defense Rifle so I can be the Lone Man to Keep Order! It's also cool that there's a lot of nameless raiders/zombies/mutants that I can kill with my Cool Rifle and never mind about supplies, I can just loot their stuff! Also, very cool that the violent collapse of society, which probably has killed my own family, friends, everything I love and care for, my daily life, and has exposed me to brutal and horrible sights hasn't given me any lasting trauma to talk about!"

the "extremely long video essay" trend is fascinating because they seem to be entirely produced for the spectacle of a youtube video being that long instead of actually trying to say something. they always spend time talking about how the video totally isn't bloated and definitely needs to be this long and then spend several hours summarizing the thing they're talking about and maybe say a bit about it at the end and that's the whole video

the intended method of watching them seems to be just putting them on in the background and not really paying attention, so i suppose saying anything of substance would require actual attention and defeat the point
