Question

edit

As I understand it, a globally locked user cannot edit their own Talk pages. What about e-mail? Thanks.--Bbb23 (talk) 13:30, 20 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

I've been thinking some more about this. If I understand the technical ramifications of a global lock, it prevents the user from logging in. If I'm right, then the user should not be able to e-mail anyone using Wikipedia. Confirmation of my thinking would be helpful.--Bbb23 (talk) 16:06, 20 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

How we will see unregistered users

edit

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

Thank you. /Johan (WMF)

Denver LTA/harassment

edit

Is there any way that you can block 184.96.128.0/17 for some time? I think that collateral damage is much less of a worry than a persistent LTA who has been harassing users and vandalizing Wikipedia since 2007. It's also the last of their ranges to not be globally blocked at the moment (75.166.96.0/19, 174.16.96.0/19, 97.118.96.0/19, and 2607:FB91:1100:0:0:0:0:0/40 are all currently globally blocked) Wizzito (talk) 18:12, 22 February 2022 (UTC)Reply

Unblock request

edit

Hello sir I want to tell you that I am blocked for accountcreation blocked, email disabled, cannot edit own talk page CU block for indefinite time.because I was put a complain against a global renamer for misbehaving on Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents but the Administrator put me on block list on gross incompetence or trolling. My mistake was that I put complain without their diff because I was not aware of this. Because I was not read guideline for complain on Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents I have requested for unblock on my talk page but admin not put attaintion by replying that 'I don't know what I was thinking' {perhaps because I was not put block reason(only put unblock reason) on request because I was not read unblocking guideline.} Than I requested to unblock on UTRS but It showing message that I have already put request.

Unblock reason- I was not read guideline for complain on Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents

Block reason-gross incompetence or trolling, doesn't really matter which

Hello, I wanted to talk to you about the same issue. I help out with Wikimedia projects in Senegal, especially training new users both with online and offline Wikipedia. I am myself a school teacher in Switzerland, and this is the type of problem I sometimes encounter when training other teachers and/or their students.

Change my username, please?

edit

Hi, Bsadowski:

I read that stewards can change user names, and picked you to ask because (1) you speak English, (2) Sadowskis are, on average, much more attractive than the average user, and (3) I have family members named “Sadowski” and suspect we may have shared a burger at a family reunion at some point!

I have never used my account to edit anything here because the same day I created it, I read an article about some less-than-brilliant people seeing certain words and mistaking them for racist attacks (sigh], and examples listed in the article included the first name in my user name (sigh2).

I would be most grateful if you’d change my username to Anal-RetentiveBinky (sans hyphen is fine if they cause problems in usernames); I could then help clean up articles written in English by people for whom it is their second (or third, or fourth, or … you get the idea) language, thus some cleaning up and straightening out of their articles is required.

I found nothing in the documentation describing the form these requests take, so I assume this is sufficient, but if it’s not, you can contact me at binkstress via Google’s email service with any questions or to get any info you need to make the change.

Thanks very much for considering my request! In the meantime, I hope your Christmas is merry and that your 2023 is better than 2020, 2021, and 2022 all combined!

Please take a Look at wikiquotes

edit

Apparently American orwellian exceptionalist proponents have taken over at wikiquotes. Unbalanced, terrible "Information domination" efforts are very obvious there. It's become a bit of a madhouse ever since since the USA's proxy war with Russia began. Perhaps in large part due to the massive waves of "big lie" propaganda that have been spread at maximum force throughout the western world. WQ has become dominated by people who seem to have no comprehension of the basic, benevolent philosophy that gave birth to wikipedia. With so many people being constantly fed lies in the west, there are many honest, good & very gullible, brainwashed people who are supporting the madness, parroting lies (much like the situation in Germany 80 years ago) when millions of good people were brainwashed and stood in support of Hitler.
Apparently, the corruption runs deep & includes bureaucrats who have looked the other way, while corrupt admins have 'blocked' legit editors & cooperated with Censors (some of whom are probably sockpuppets). There has been routine censorship of legit material that contradicts the USA neocon's narrative on political matters, including U.S. & World Historical events of the last few years. They've been fairly clever and routinely used fair words to cloak their foul deeds. Some of them talk about NPOV, but clearly the US neocon POV there, is the NPOV.
Of the perpetrators, many seem to be illiterates with no more than a 10th grade (u.s.) education. They (including some admins) appear to have zero interest in helping expand WQ or in any quotations that have been spoken by notable people, & published by reliable publishers. Apparently they are using WikiQuotes as a tool to dull/dumb down, turn off visitors, to put them in a submissive, obedient, pessimistic, American exceptionalist space, ruled by yahoo - permanent war with all who disagree with the neo-cons, mode. Yes really.
With much in common with the situation in Germany ~80 years ago, their actions indicate that they ARE dedicated to "Controlling" the information, aka: "Information Domination" -= see: https://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Information_Warfare_Community

Hello, dear Bsadowski1! How are you? I would like to draw your attention to the request for comment that I made in July, 2023. As the situation has deteriorated since then towards the open vote fraud by the bureaucrat, a timely consensus on the part of stewards has become even more essential for the implemention of rules in Belarusian Classical Wikipedia. https://meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Talk:Steward_requests/Global&oldid=26204969

This may be a suspected LTA, with a pattern of 'offensive' edits at Wikinews and other sites, They may also be account hopping, as I've seen the same pattern under a number of user names. I suspect that the request they made here was related to my reverts and attempts to raise concerns with local project admins at English Wikinews. Some of the previous accounts are already Globally locked, but I'm not aware if there have been any checkuser or LTA protocol contacts with the originating ISP yet. ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 10:12, 10 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

If requesting admin assistance in response to potentially offensive comments is itself vandalism, I fail to see how I can continue contributing on WMF projects ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 10:14, 10 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

Simplewiki

edit

Hey dude!

I was wondering if you know of a couple of good people on enwiki who I could approach to help simplewiki's problem where enwiki users get blocked and then head over to us to "prove" a) they were blocked incorrectly in the first place, b) they are really just nice, misunderstood people who want to just help out, it was the other guys fault not theirs, and no they are not actually sockpuppets? Since I've been back I've noticed a big increase in enwiki SPIs users heading our way and LTAs that at first seem to be good users and then turn out to make fools of us. :-( Thoughts? fr33kman 22:03, 5 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
