Rapport Campagne AfroCreatives Edit-a-thon FESPACO au Tchad

The N’Djamena workshop is part of a series of training sessions for film and television actors that will take place in several African cities in August. These workshops are an extension of the FESPACO 2024 Edit-a-thon campaign, launched in May to improve Chadian film and television content on Wikipedia.

Campaign Progress

1. Launch and First Workshop – May 25, 2024

The campaign began on May 25, 2024 in Chad, with the participation of Wikimedians of Tchad User Group . This first workshop focused on an introduction to free knowledge, Wikimedia projects, and their role in documenting and disseminating reliable information.

Topics covered included:

The importance of sources and references in creating online content. Best practices for creating an article on Wikipedia. Using Wikimedia tools for active contribution.

2. Training Workshops – May 25, 2024

The training workshops ended on May 25, 2024. However, the campaign continued until June 1, 2024. During this last workshop, a particular focus was placed on strengthening the capacities of experienced contributors, with practical sessions. Participants were able to deepen their knowledge on:

Wikicommons: the importance of illustrating articles with images. Wikidata: the integration of structured data. Uploading images to Wikicommons to accompany created or improved articles.

3. Results See the two Dashboard:

• WikiProject_,film_Ndjamena

At the end of the campaign, a total of 10 contributors were actively involved in writing and improving articles. The campaign allowed to:

Create more than 10 articles on various aspects of the film industry in Chad. Improve about a hundred articles, by adding new information, correcting errors, or enriching the articles with images and additional data.

Conclusion

The FESPACO Edit-a-thon 2024 cinema campaign helped fill some of the information gaps on the African film industry, particularly Chadian cinema. Thanks to the combined efforts of contributors, Chadian cinema has been strengthened on Wikimedia platforms. These results reflect the need to continue to document and promote African cultural heritage through collaborative contribution and the use of Wikimedia projects.
