Bug when accessing multiple pages in dates one of them didn't exist

[edit]

I hit a bug while accidentally attempting to use the tool for articles that were not created yet in the period defined in the "Dates" field. In particular, I tried to access the stats for article Rui Rocha throughout 2021, while the page was only created in 2022.

If I enter a single page, I get an error saying "Rui Rocha: Error querying Pageviews API - Not Found". This is not really user-friendly (an error like "Page Rui Rocha did not exist in the specified period" would be better), but it's at least minimally informative and not too scary.

But if I enter multiple pages including the one that did not exist in the specified period, I get the message "Fatal error: TypeError: i is undefined" along with a red pop-up saying "Fatal error: Please refresh the page to try again or report this issue".

IMO both issues should be handled more gracefully, but the second one in particular appears to be missing a guard in the code. --Waldyrious (talk) 19:32, 5 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

I will get this fixed. Thanks for reporting and providing detailed steps to reproduce the issue! :) MusikAnimal (WMF) (talk) 16:20, 14 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
Restoring this thread which is being archived due to age, but hasn't (AFAICT) been resolved yet. --Waldyrious (talk) 14:43, 18 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
Apologies. I will tend to this when time allows. MusikAnimal (WMF) (talk) 19:32, 24 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

"No results found" in Userview Analysus

[edit]

I tried to check views of all the Wikipedia pages I edited, but using Userviews Analysis always results in "no results found", even if the user "RFNirmala" is recognized while searching. When the namespace is "All", the site only takes views from my user page and sandbox. I'd like to see the views of all the articles I contributed in.

Tried this on both MS Edge (Windows 10) and Google (Android Samsung), to no avail, even after cleaning cookies. Userview analysis on other users does fine, however, taking views of articles they edited.

Enhancement request: smoothing

[edit]

Can you please provide an option for statistical smoothing for chart-type = line, with user tunability (number of days)? Thanks, Mathglot (talk) 02:00, 14 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Bot scans distort statistics on page views

[edit]

Dear Team,

have you noticed that the regular bot scans distort the statistics of page views? Example: https://pageviews.wmcloud.org/?project=de.wikipedia.org&platform=all-access&agent=user&redirects=0&start=2015-07-01&end=2024-08-17&pages=Per%C3%BCckenstrauch

Especially as this only occurs so regularly with certain articles... Perhaps the problem can be more precisely localized and possibly improved?

Thanks, Daniel

PS: Why there is only a statistics site for the pageview analysis of the German Wikipedia? Dankedaniel (talk) 10:20, 20 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Dankedaniel See https://pageviews.wmcloud.org/pageviews/faq/#anomaly. Pageviews Analysis can be used on almost all WMF wikis. Just change the "Project" field accordingly. Best, MusikAnimal (WMF) (talk) 20:32, 29 August 2024 (UTC)Reply

Massviews - Output to Wikitext

[edit]

We can use Massviews to generate a list of stubs maintained by a Wikiproject, ranked by popularity. This is a very handy list of low-hanging fruit which can form part of a to-do list, inspiring editors to contribute. However, the best way I've found to export Massviews data to Wikipedia is to copy the table into the Visual Editor. This loses the page-view link per line, and is very clunky for large tables.

I'm active in Wikiproject Video Games, which has 8,000+ marked stubs. While I could just link to the Massview Results, it seems like wasted time/resources to regenerate these results.

I have never seen this report on Wikiproject pages. I think it would be useful for editors to see where they can have a high impact with surprisingly little effort. I can see many Wikiprojects benefitting, and believe that it could be an automated monthly feature should that be possible. - hahnchen (talk) 10:09, 13 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
