Thoughts about contribution

[edit]

Encouraging calligraphers or designers to upload their own work

[edit]

I think it might be a good idea to encourage calligraphers or designers to upload their own works and illustrate articles as needed.

Pros:

  • Taking ownership of the tasks they find interesting and contribute independently.

Cons:

  • "Their own work" might mislead them into thinking they will own copyrights to their works uploaded.
  • Not all calligraphers or designers are tech savvy, which will actually burden them with a task that will be time consuming and highly difficult.

Resource allocation

[edit]

Probably it would be a balanced approach to encourage persons to contribute themselves, as well as allocate points of contact from the targeted language community to facilitate or direct those who cannot contribute themselves. This, in turn, would necessitate putting together a guide for contributors in this specific field and translate it as well.

Answer to shared thoughts

Hello @Haytham abulela:, thank you for sharing your thoughts.

I like your proposal to encourage calligraphers or designers to upload their own works. Regarding the cons, their own work would mislead them, they are and stay copyright holder of works they share on Commons, that's why they actually can legally give everybody the right to reuse them under free licenses. For those who are not tech savy, we should identify people able to help them, willing to do so, and having time to make it so.

So from your feedback, it seems that next steps are :

  1. find calligraphers and designers that could become contributors, either by simply providing analogical works and the right to share them, or going further and learn to contribute alone;
  2. find exsting contributors with motivation and resources to help the previously indicated people;
  3. creating dedicated documentation for calligraphers on the processes they can follow to contribute, depending on their available time and aimed depth of engagement.

Do you have idea where to look at for the first point? It seems the current corner stone of this project, so we should priorize this one before engaging on the two other. What do you think? Have you ideas about who to contact, what to tell to them? can I help you in any way Haytham abulela?
