Reminder to vote now to ratify the Wikimedia Movement Charter

[edit]
You can find this message translated into additional languages on Meta-wiki. Please help translate to your language

Dear Wikimedian,

You are receiving this message because you previously voted in the 2021 Movement Charter Drafting Committee (MCDC) election.

This is a reminder that if you have not voted yet on the ratification of the final Wikimedia Movement Charter draft, please do so by July 9, 2024 at 23:59 UTC.

You can read the final text of the Wikimedia Movement Charter in your language. Following that, check on whether you are eligible to vote. If you are eligible, cast your vote on SecurePoll.

On behalf of the Charter Electoral Commission,

Your question

[edit]

Hi, since we are not aware of any possible appeals by inelegible users or their eventual outcome I think that for the moment there should not be questions or comments for candidates deemed ineligible. As soon as we receive any feedback from EC we will unhide (or remove) the section. Thanks! Civvì (talk) 04:38, 20 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Civvì: I am on ElectCom as an advisor. We have no role in this election and will not be providing an opinion. -- Guerillero Parlez Moi 06:17, 20 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Answer to All Questions

[edit]

Hey Guerillero! I am writing to you per your undoing of my edits to the "Questions for candidates" pages. I notified the Elections Committee earlier in the process that I will also be answering all of the questions asked in this year's process and received no information that this would be unwelcomed. As you can see, I add no new content to the 5 EC-selected questions, I just inform about the answers to all the others. I would like those answers made available to the readers. Could you please consider reverting your changes? Thanks! CC: @KTC, @Der-Wir-Ing. Nadzik (talk) 06:46, 3 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

The issue is not with answering the question. The issue was with (1) editing your response to the core questions after the voting has begun and (2) advertising your answers to the optional questions as a addendum to your answers to the core questions -- Guerillero Parlez Moi 14:08, 3 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Guerillero, CC: @KTC, the questions were answered so community members could familiarize themselves with the answers, which is why I linked to them. I have not changed the answer to any of the 5 core questions, they remain the same, the only edits after the July answering deadline I made are to add the mention of additional answers. The time of that edit was well before the vote (not as you state " after the voting has begun") and during the official campaign period (still 26.08 AoE). How could I link to the other answers in respect to your guidelines? I really just want people to be able to read this if they so choose. Thanks for your help! Nadzik (talk) 09:30, 4 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hey @Guerillero, Since 2,5 days have passed since my last message [out of 14] with no response and your action was not communicated as EC official action (like it was done other time), I will undo your changes in a short time. I will use the following language:
In addition to 5 selected questions, this candidate has answered all of the community questions in [[Wikimedia_Foundation_elections/2024/Questions_for_candidates/All_questions|another location]]
Please let me know if you have any objections. CC: @KTC. Nadzik (talk) 20:17, 6 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Nadzik: I am an advisory member of ElectCom and the removal was done in that capacity. If voters would like to read answers to questions beyond the mandatory set, they can look at the all questions page you made. For equity reasons, we cannot allow you to add additional questions to the set beyond the chosen 5 or create pressure on other candidates to answer additional questions. -- Guerillero Parlez Moi 09:41, 7 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Guerillero, thank you for your answer. You mention that the voters can look at the All Questions page I made. I agree! However, how are they expected to do that (and even know that it exists) if the page isn't linked anywhere? :) Where can I put the link to it? Thanks! Nadzik (talk) 10:43, 7 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
Top of your user page? Top of your user talk page? People are going to click on candidate's username link to find out more about them. KTC (talk) 11:58, 7 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Newspapers.com access is being restored

[edit]

You are receiving this message because our records indicate that you used Newspapers.com via The Wikipedia Library in the past year. Newspapers.com has been affected by a number of technical issues over that time period, which most recently caused it not to work at all. If you aren't already familiar, further details can be found at T322916.

We're pleased to share that we have found a solution which will restore access to Newspapers.com's content! Newspapers.com have agreed to move back to our old method of granting access, whereby users must first register at Newspapers.com, then apply via The Wikipedia Library, and then accounts are upgraded to a subscribing one by Newspapers.com. We have updated Newspapers.com to accept applications in the library, so you can apply now!

This change is unfortunately mutually exclusive with the limited proxy-based access working, so any of the technical workarounds that have been discussed should no longer work, along with any proxy-based access to Newspapers.com. I hope you agree that this brief bump will be worth it in the long run.

As a reminder, this change means that you will need to renew your access on a yearly basis. If you have an email configured in The Wikipedia Library you should receive an email a few weeks before this expiry to remind you to submit an extension request, but brief yearly loss of access may be a side effect of this access method. The good news is that this access method means that you shouldn't encounter any technical problems besides normal operational problems on Newspapers.com's end, which should be few and resolved quickly - otherwise the website should work just as if you were a normal customer.

If you have any questions please ask them at this Meta announcement. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:40, 25 September 2024 (UTC)Reply
