Wikimedia Medicine

[edit]

Thank you for your interest in Wikimedia Medicine. We hope to create a non profit corporation to promote the aims of the Wikimedia Movement within the topic domain of medicine. This means we plan to promote the creation and release of "health care information in all languages" under an open license. This will be done primarily via speaking and collaborating with both individuals and organizations who share our goal. We are working on a number of collaborations already and are open to more ideas. WLE Brasil 2015 - Grant proposal

[edit]

Hello,

Thanks for your comments and participation in my grant proposal regarding WLE2015 Brasil. I'm really sorry regarding the level of the discussions there. Argentom is a very famous trouble-maker in our Brazilian community as well in the international community and unfortunately there is no way to stop that. I tried to justify and explain everything in many opportunity but in every new proposal he starts with the same conversation and defamatory messages. Following the recomendation that I received I will stop to answer all questions and trash talking from Argentom. If you have any question or consideration I'm here to provide all information and answers.

Thanks again

Rodrigo Padula (talk) 12:23, 27 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hi Rodrigo Padula
No worries, many thanks for your reply, I hope the grant is successful, it's strange the two tool give such different answers.
Cheers
Mrjohncummings (talk) 20:22, 27 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
During the next week I will try to evaluate why the two tools gave as such different answers. Thanks for your help and attention with that proposal. Best regards Rodrigo Padula (talk) 22:04, 27 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

What future IdeaLab campaigns would you like to see?

[edit]

Hi there,

I’m Jethro, and I’m seeking your help in deciding topics for new IdeaLab campaigns that could be run starting next year. These campaigns aim to bring in proposals and solutions from communities that address a need or problem in Wikimedia projects. I'm interested in hearing your preferences and ideas for campaign topics!

Here’s how to participate:

Take care,

I JethroBT (WMF), Community Resources, Wikimedia Foundation. 03:34, 5 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

Future IdeaLab Campaigns results

[edit]

Last December, I invited you to help determine future ideaLab campaigns by submitting and voting on different possible topics. I'm happy to announce the results of your participation, and encourage you to review them and our next steps for implementing those campaigns this year. Thank you to everyone who volunteered time to participate and submit ideas.

With great thanks,

I JethroBT (WMF), Community Resources, Wikimedia Foundation. 23:55, 26 January 2016 (UTC)Reply

Inspire Campaign on content curation & review

[edit]

I've recently launched an Inspire Campaign to encourage new ideas focusing on content review and curation in Wikimedia projects. Wikimedia volunteers collaboratively manage vast repositories of knowledge, and we’re looking for your ideas about how to manage that knowledge to make it more meaningful and accessible. We invite you to participate and submit ideas, so please get involved today! The campaign runs until March 28th.

All proposals are welcome - research projects, technical solutions, community organizing and outreach initiatives, or something completely new! Funding is available from the Wikimedia Foundation for projects that need financial support. Constructive feedback on ideas is welcome - your skills and experience can help bring someone else’s project to life. Join us at the Inspire Campaign to improve review and curation tasks so that we can make our content more meaningful and accessible! I JethroBT (WMF) 05:39, 29 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Open Call for Individual Engagement Grants

[edit]

Greetings! The Individual Engagement Grants (IEG) program is accepting proposals until April 12th to fund new tools, research, outreach efforts, and other experiments that enhance the work of Wikimedia volunteers. Whether you need a small or large amount of funds (up to $30,000 USD), IEGs can support you and your team’s project development time in addition to project expenses such as materials, travel, and rental space.

With thanks, I JethroBT (WMF), Community Resources 15:56, 31 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

Through June, we’re organizing an Inspire Campaign to encourage and support new ideas focusing on addressing harassment toward Wikimedia contributors. The 2015 Harassment Survey has shown evidence that harassment in various forms - name calling, threats, discrimination, stalking, and impersonation, among others - is pervasive. Available methods and systems to deal with harassment are also considered to be ineffective. These behaviors are clearly harmful, and in addition, many individuals who experience or witness harassment participate less in Wikimedia projects or stop contributing entirely.

Proposals in any language are welcome during the campaign - research projects, technical solutions, community organizing and outreach initiatives, or something completely new! Funding is available from the Wikimedia Foundation for projects that need financial support. Constructive feedback on ideas is appreciated, and collaboration is encouraged - your skills and experience may help bring someone else’s project to life. Join us at the Inspire Campaign so that we can work together to develop ideas around this important and difficult issue. With thanks,

I JethroBT (WMF) (talk) 17:46, 31 May 2016 (UTC) (Opt-out instructions)Reply

I missed it!

[edit]

I totally missed your proposal about file management and sharing in the multimedia survey... I opened its section two times briefly and it was in a non favorable position, I guess... funny thing is that I sent an email two days ago to my local chapter if they knew everything like that existed. And I even said that maybe I would have done a proposal like that next year about that. Moral support this time. Sorry. too many proposal to review.--Alexmar983 (talk) 16:18, 13 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

How can i help with the UN wikiproject?

[edit]

MechQuester (talk) 21:14, 22 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hi MechQuester, thanks very much for messaging me, the most important thing to do at the moment is to create some new articles using text from UNESCO publications, there is a page on it here. Have a look at the section on Creating new articles from external sources and then the section with the red links, UN World Water Development Report is very promising. Please let me know if the instructions are clear, its a new process and I'm making things up as I go along, there is definitely room for improvement. The reason this is so important to do is to build a body of evidence to show that releasing text under an open license can be beneficial for organisations. I'm currently talking to other UN agencies about their content licenses and these examples will be very helpful.
Thanks again
--John Cummings (talk) 10:11, 23 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
Interesting :). You know, I have already a huge respect for UNESCO. Fascinating honestly. I will read and choose a topic soon enough. All those are great topics. All it takes to make things happen is by the phrase "Make it so." ;) MechQuester (talk) 22:07, 24 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
MechQuester, great, thanks, let me know if you have any questions or need anything. --John Cummings (talk) 15:02, 25 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
Hi, I was looking at the 2016 UN World Water Development Report, Water and Jobs. I think we could start by sending the information to WikiSource. They are a database where you can copy paste stuff, as opposed to writing about it on enwiki. MechQuester (talk) 15:34, 25 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
Hi MechQuester, we are going to organise adding all the open license UNESCO publications to Wikisource centrally using bots to keep things up to date, so don't worry about adding them yourself :) I'm trying to automate as much stuff as I can so its a sustainable thing once I'm not here any more. Adding the text from the publications to create new Wikipedia articles or adding the images that they have released to Wikipedia, Wikivoyage etc would be the most helpful thing at the moment. Thanks --John Cummings (talk) 12:19, 26 January 2017 (UTC)Reply
Hey, Quick Question. Can you head over to my talk page on Commons? Someone asked about license for those. A little help would be appreciated. Thanks. MechQuester (talk) 14:56, 26 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hi MechQuester, I've added a reply, not all UNESCO publications are available under an open license, I added a description of how to find out if documents are available under an open license. You don't need to spend time importing books, it will all happen automatically in a few months with the correct metadata and additional links and categorisation. Thanks --John Cummings (talk) 16:34, 26 January 2017 (UTC)Reply

Invitation to affiliate members to complete a survey about WMF wide Universal Code of Conduct

[edit]

Hello; My name is Mervat, and I am helping the Trust and Safety team to reach out to affiliates in order to discuss the Universal Code of Conduct. I am contacting you as you are a member of the Wikimedians for Sustainable Development User Group. If you have received this from other user groups/chapters, you can ignore.

There has been talks about the need for a global set of conduct rules in different communities over time, and finally, Wikimedia Foundation Board announced a Community Culture Statement, enacting new standards to address harassment and promote inclusivity across projects.Since the universal code of conduct that will be a binding minimum set of standards across all Wikimedia projects, will apply to all of us, staff and volunteers alike, all around the globe, and will impact our work as groups, individuals and projects, it’s of great importance that we all participate in expressing our opinions and thoughts about UCoC, its nature, what we think it should cover or include and what it shouldn’t include; how it may develop, drawback or help our groups.   This is the time to talk about it. As you are a valuable contributor to the Wikimedia movement, your voice counts. Before starting to draft the code of conduct, we would like to hear from you; We invite you to devote some minutes to take this survey; your answers will help us create a safer environment for all on Wikimedia:

(English) https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSd36dNdU3C5shXEkKp9itJOhuCTx9hZE5AE-xflkxtfRMnZtg/viewform?usp=pp_url

It’s possible that you are a member of more than one affiliate; hence you may receive this survey more than once, and you may have participated previously in the discussions or filled out a previous survey during the first round of consultations about UCoC which targeted wikipedia/wikimedia communities. We apologize for this; it is really difficult to identify if a wikimedian belongs to multiple groups that work to spread free knowledge. Looking forward to your thoughts and opinions and hoping that you can respond within the next 2 weeks.  If you have any questions about the surveys or difficulties accessing the link, please contact me by email (msalman-ctr@wikimedia.org)Results will be considered during the drafting process for the UCoC. Thank you for your participation

Wiki4Women

[edit]

Hello John, My name is Asareel and I am so excited to get the opportunity to hopefully get information from you regarding the Wiki4Women initiative for an essay we are working on for the Women in Red project of the English Wikipedia site. I am mainly looking for any biographical information like exactly when the project began and particular facts or statistical data showing the goals and impact of the initiative that would be useful for anyone seeking projects, task forces, campaigns and initiatives supporting women and women related topics on our various Wiki-sites. Very recently several of our editors expressed the desire to try and pull all of our various projects in an essay style list in the hopes of combining our efforts to increase visibility of our shared concerns about the gender gap and gender bias that still exists on Wikipedia. We feel this essay will offer the opportunity to guide new editors and experienced editors, alike, to all of the projects that support women on Wikipedia and Wikimedia in the hopes of bolstering activity and the exchange of ideas. We don't want one ounce of creativity being wasted simply because of the lack of knowledge that our projects exist and we see this essay being a way to educate editors on how to get involved and give them the opportunity to pick where they feel their efforts would be most impactful. If there is someone else that would be better to speak with concerning this effort then please guide me in the right direction. Thank you for all you continually do and I look forward to your response. --ARoseWolf 19:22, 23 July 2021 (UTC)Reply

Hi @ARoseWolf: sorry for missing this, I'm not exactly sure what you're asking me to do. Please let me know, also if you could reply on Wikipedia, that would be great, I hardly come to Meta. John Cummings (talk) 10:16, 5 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
Sorry, John, it sends me here to your Meta page automatically. Do you have a different user name on Wikipedia? --ARoseWolf 14:02, 5 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
Oh weird it must be because of the one userpage, here is where I mean https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:John_Cummings. Thanks, John Cummings (talk) 14:18, 5 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Interview Request

[edit]

Hi John!

My name is Seve, and I am a Product Manager at the Wikimedia Foundation. I am reaching out to GLAM users as part of an upcoming research study I am conducting.

We wish to learn more about how editors discover and use tools and hopefully come up with related products or services that meet your needs and the needs of people like you. I would like to request an hour to interview you for whatever time works best for you. Let me emphasize that I don't wish or intend to interfere with your day or waste your time.

If you want to learn more details about participating in this study, I'd be happy to give you a call and explain more.

Thank you, Seve

Pilot & Consultation: Geo-based Wikimedia movement metrics

[edit]

Hello John - It has been a while since our paths crossed, not sure if my email reached you as I was unable to find your WMSE email. I hope you are well. I wanted to reach out to be sure you are aware of an open pilot and consultation period the Global Data & Insights team is hosting this month and next about the development of new geo-based engagement metrics.

The Wikimedia Movement Data Equity Landscape project is an effort to bring together available signal metrics to provide useful data for answering questions about who is in the Wikimedia movement, what voices may be missing across known pathways for engaging with Wikimedia, and where.

The purpose of this pilot and consultation period is to gather feedback and suggestions from movement organizers about the project, the underlying input data, and the output metrics utility for identifying gaps and opportunities for inclusion and equity across Wikimedia engagement spaces.

The consultation period for these metrics inputs and other design considerations has begun. We seek movement organizers like you to partner either by enrolling in the small pilot group (~5 hours commitment), or more lightly, by inputting to any of the ten consultation prompts on meta which you find personally relevant.

You can review the details of the project and input to discussion prompts for directed questions and design considerations in our meta portal. If you are interested in the pilot and gaining early data access under NDA, or know other movement organizers who would be, there is still room, just let me know and I can send you information on next steps.

Thanks for any time and consideration you can give. JAnstee (WMF) (talk) 19:03, 15 February 2022 (UTC)Reply
