thank god i’m not the only one. i thought it was a just a weird pet peeve how it kind of annoyed me when people would write about the catalan barça boys and have them talk to their s/o in spanish instead of catalan. those boys are born and raised in catalonia, they’re gonna speak catalan. pau cubarsi has even talked about how he isn’t completely fluent in spanish because he’s spoken catalan all his life.
YES ANON! heavy on the pau cubarsí thing, like, if you watch his interviews on youtube or tiktok you can literally hear him fighting for his life with his heavy accent when speaking spanish. funny, i thought it was just me as well that was ‘bothered’ by this haha. if i ever write fics about them ohhh im gonna have them speak catalan all the time
i find it very amusing (and i don’t say it in a despective manner) when it shows that people who write fics about barça boys (at least the spanish/catalan ones) don’t know how high school works or how you should adress others in spain. because at least in my experience we do not call the mother of our significant other by their last name, especially since in fics it is written as if spanish women changed their last names to their husbands when they get married, yes we may jokingly say suegra but most of the time it’s just their given name. and when it says ‘you shared a period in school with him’ actually!!!!! in spain most of the time it’s just one common classroom with the same timetable and it is the teachers who move around for the periods, soooo yeah!! again i don’t want to be mean about it but its kinda funny lol. and oh my god when they write the catalan boys talking to their s/o in spanish im like noooooooooo pls pls tell me what u want me to translate and i will do it catalan is just a beautiful language guyyss. anyway slay all culérs who write fanfiction you guys are keeping me sane
