“So uh..” you clear your voice awkwardly, giving a small frown to Sunghoon, “you want to tell me why Jungwon was crying when I found him?”
“You also want to tell me why you were out in the middle of the night, Y/N?” Sunghoon raises his eyebrows.
“Just answer me first!”
Park Sunghoon rolls his eyes, but it’s affectionate this time, and not in a hateful way like you both used to do to one another when you found out he had lied straight to your face.
“Fine, it’s because..” Sunghoon pauses, biting his lip nervously, “well… I can’t tell you.”
“And why not?” You urge Sunghoon to go on, wanting to know why Yang Jungwon was crying his heart out in your arms in the middle of the street, looking like a kicked puppy; or should you say cat, because Yang Jungwon scarily resembled the whiskered animal.
“It’s not really my place,” Sunghoon says, “Won told me about it last week. He was crying during it too—and my heart just broke. You know how hard it is watching him sob in my arms? And knowing it was all because of someone I knew and loved as well.”
So Jungwon was crying because of somebody that both him and Sunghoon knew. You wonder if you know that person, and your curiosity seems like it’s about to burst in any second.
“Listen,” Sunghoon says, placing his hand on yours to stop it from shaking, “I’m sure Wonie will tell you when he’s ready. I understand why he hasn’t yet, but you’ll understand in the future why he didn’t tell you at first.”
Was it really bad? You think so, because only such a horrible thing could make a well kept leader like Jungwon cry pathetically like that.
“So why were you out?”
“It’s stupid,” you sigh, “I wanted to check up on Riki, so I got Jiung and Beomgyu to stall for me while Yeji snuck me out. Beomgyu was telling my manager some dumb thing about his toe surgery, don’t even ask. But uhm… I sort of… well… got lost while trying to find your dorms?”
Sunghoon can’t help but let out a laugh, quickly covering his mouth when he sees your glare.
“Yah Park Sunghoon, I’ve only been here like once! Of course I would get lost! And my phone was on low battery, so I panicked. Some guy ran into me hysterically crying, and I realized it was Jungwon. He rambled something about Riki, so I asked him where Riki was, but he just became more upset. That’s when I dialed your number, and thank God you picked up.”
“Well I’m glad you called me,” Sunghoon says, “Jungwon’s been going through an emotional time, so I want to make sure he knows that I’ll always be there for him.”
That’s disgustingly sweet, you think. But it’s cute, to say the least. You just wish you knew why Jungwon kept saying Riki’s name over and over again.
“Thank you though,” Sunghoon says, smiling at you, “thank you for being there for Jungwon when I couldn’t. You probably don’t realize—but you helped him a lot tonight. You were there for him, and that’s all he ever really wanted.”
Sunghoon’s words make you blush, biting your lip as you try to suppress your bright smile.
There’s a few moments of silence, and then you and Sunghoon make eye contact.
None of you dare to break it, and before you knew it, Park Sunghoon leans in, and he’s about to kiss you—like those cheesy romantic K-Dramas—and your hair flows back even though there’s no wind and—
BOOM!
Just then, the door slams open, revealing a messy hair Nishimura Riki whose face filled to the brim with tears.
Sunghoon internally groans. Thanks a lot cockblocker.
“Riki,” you breathe out, quickly standing up to take your brother into your arms, “what’s wrong? Tell noona.”
“We’re over.” Riki says, placing his head in your neck, “we’re really over, noona.”
Riki doesn’t even bother asking why you were at his dorm, he was too upset and dazed to care.
He grips tightly on the back of your flannel, wet tears covered your neck.
“Come on Riki, lets get you to bed, yeah?” You give Sunghoon a baffled look, wondering what the hell Riki was going off about.
Sunghoon then points to Jungwon, then to Riki, and then back to Jungwon.
It was then that you connected the dots.
You had once experienced what Jungwon had, crying and mumbling your first ex’s name when he had broken up with you for no reason.
