My default assumption whenever I see people pitching fits about how characters or ships or the color of the wallpaper or whatever else they don't like must be evil, is that they are a teenager.

They are a teenager who has never used anything other than an algorithmic feed on a social media app to find fannish content, they don't even know where the settings page is, and they're having a real bad time. They have to get up early in the morning, school is awful, all their clique-y peers have been mean to them about their weight, their teachers are impatient, they just got seven hours of homework and their last class was gym. And they are eternally frightened that they're secretly a bad person and their only current recourse against this is to be like, at least I know that pineapple on pizza is a sin.

Approaching things from this angle has never steered me wrong. Even when the person in question is not literally a teenager, they're still pretty much letting their inner kid drive the bus right now.

"A four year age gap is abusive!" okay champ. Screen time's up. Let's get you a protein shake and a nap.

I can never leave Tumblr because after years of sporadic therapy utterly failed to even approach the core of my problem some random tumblr user was like “I processed my trauma by writing a 10,000 word work of filthy fanfic erotica” and I was like “fuck it I’ve tried everything else” and now I’m 17 chapters and 20,000 words deep into an unpublishable work of obscenity and after careful literary analysis with one of the Beloved Mutuals I have come to some Terrible Revelations about my childhood and may now continue the process of Healing. Where else am I supposed to get this kind of experience. Who does this. Why are we like this. I’m never leaving. I love y’all.

I love House actually. I love that he has chronic pain. I love how in one episode he goes home to sleep bc his pain is bad. I love how in season one, when they call him back to the hospital to search for the missing kid, he admits that he’s useless, but also he still comes in. I love that in the episode where he trolls Kutner and Taub with the fake patient death, he falls asleep while waiting for them. I love how fatigue and pain are so closely bound. I love the episode with the suicidal chronic pain patient where House says “he’s not in pain because he’s depressed; he’s depressed because he’s in pain.” I love how closely pain and misery are tied in the show, feedback loops into each other. The show is far from perfect, but it has so many shining moments. Through acting and costume and writing choices, House is clearly, visibly, and behaviorally IN PAIN. And I eat it up.
