G-Schmitt [Ｇ－シュミット]  was a post punk/gothic rock band formed between 1983-1985 until disbandment in 1990 when lead singer Syoko went to pursue a solo career. G-Schmitt consisted of members, Syoko (vocals), Takaaki Umezawa (bass), Hiroshi Morimura (keyboards), Yu (drums, percussion) and Kei Shiraishi (guitar)

They are one of the best representations of a japanese take on the original sound of british gothic rock. 

This is their song 千夜一夜 (The 1001 Nights) off of their 1988 compilation Struggle To Survive

I posted this great song by Link Wray’s older brother Vernon some time ago.  But the link seems to be dead so I’m reposting it for Mother’s Day. It’s funny how many times I played this song before it finally occurred to me that he’s singing to his mother.  Maybe the title should have tipped me off, but this song is just so achingly sad that I didn’t make the connection.  Happy Mother’s Day to those mothers among you.
