Get to know the largest of all sea lions in today’s Exhibit of the Day: the Northern Sea Lion Diorama! Males of the species grow larger than females, weighing up to 2,500 lbs (1,133 kg) and reaching lengths of 11 feet (3.3 meters). The noisy and gregarious animals are found in cold coastal waters of the North Pacific. They gather between May and July in large breeding groups on remote shores, like those of the Aleutian Islands and the Pribilof Islands. Males fiercely defend their harems, which can include 10 to 30 females.
