Been focusing so much on my 7th graders lately, so now I'd like to show off what my 2nd and 3rd year drawing students are starting off with. They too had to do value scales as a drawing review, but unlike my 7th graders who only had to achieve 5 values of grey, my 2nd year had to get 8 to 10 and my 3rd year had to come up with 13 (which is really hard to do). This top piece was done by 3rd year junior Jason Kwon who has the most beautifully sensitive drawing skills, and the 2 below where…

Senior Hannah Park turned me on this morning to her aunt, Eunju Kang, a working artist out of Long Island, New York. I was so impressed by what I saw on her site (http://www.eunjukangart.com/) that I wanted to share her art with all of you, especially my drawing/painting students. I believe artists run in Hannah's family. I think she told me once that her mother is a fashion designer. Thank you Hannah for sharing your auntie with me!

These value scales were done by my 2nd year 2-D kids as a warm-up exercise at the beginning of the school year. Yeah, I know I'm very late in posting them. See if you can find the scale in this first piece by junior Belinda Wu. This is her first year with me and she is coming to me with exceptional skills. She has cleverly hidden the scale in her table tops. Her attention to detail and her shading abilities are remarkable. This next piece by senior Halah Elsahhar is lovely. Her craftsmanship…

VALUE SCALES 7TH GRADE ART WHEEL - 3RD QUARTER - 2017-2018 graphite & colored pencil accents Let me introduce you to probably one of the most talented 7th graders I had the pleasure of working with last year, Itzel Huerta. The piece above was the very first piece she created for me and when she turned it in I was blown out of the water. Can you find her 3 value scales in the piece? OMG, this is so not 7th grade level. I was absolutely delighted to have her aboard. And lucky for me she is…

These were done by my Intermediate and Advanced 2-d students as a warm up/drawing review at the beginning of the year. I'm just a little tardy getting them posted. My Intermediate class had to do a ten step value scale and my Advanced kids a 15 step scale. They were allowed to be as creative as possible with their subjects that their scales were put into. The whole thing was done in graphite. Above we have senior Michael Chen (Art II) with this very clean piece, and below is senior Crislyn…

With my latest winnings (from back in August) from the SmARTteacher website, I was excited to buy this Vincent van Gogh action figure doll!! This really made my day when I found it in the catalog...a little something to start decorating my high school room with! This is one of the other things I purchased with my winnings... a perspective book that has some really great illustrations and explanations of perspective in it. As I grade the 7th graders final sketchbook tags from the graffiti…
