The Midnight Special began as a TV special on Aug. 19, 1972, then began its run as a series on Feb. 2, 1973. It aired through 1981. The 90-minute program, with Wolfman Jack as the announcer, aired Friday nights after The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson on NBC.
